Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 6MP, 4000, 5000 and 8000 Series Printers Late-breaking ReadMe File ******************************************************************** NOTICE! The Late-Breaking Information README.TXT file contains information that may impact the installation and use of your HP LaserJet printer. ******************************************************************** 1. The font vendor Arphic has an updated version of their download utility available for individuals who have purchased Arphic font products. This download utility does not work with the standard Microsoft Pscript printer driver. An updated driver (v4.2.3) available from the Adobe web site will work and can be used for products that support true Adobe PostScript (e.g., LaserJet 6MP). 2. Another solution for downloading fonts to the printer's disk can be obtained through HP. Hewlett-Packard has a font downloader, "Font and Resource Manager" which has been localized for Asian support on Windows 95/98. 3. DynaLab will send a customer the relative outline fonts to address holes seen with the stroke based DynaLab fonts. Contact Microsoft for Microsoft system fonts which exhibit holes in the characters. 4. The PageMaker application default setting will not send Asian fonts to the printer. To change this configuration the user must select "File", "Print", then select the "Options" button to set the download options to bitmap. 5. The printer may experience a print overrun (error 21) in which the page is too complex to print. If this occurs in the NT 4.0 PostScript driver it may be due to the use of bitmap replication to make bold fonts. The customer may use the "Standard" or "Stroke Outline" setting in the "HP Auto Bold" feature. ******************************************************************** The following is a procedure to download fonts to the printer's hard disk and install fonts into the Windows 95/98 Postscript driver. NOTE: This procedure assumes that a Printer Fonts Metrics file (*.pfm) was supplied with each font. Contact your font vendor if you do not have the associated pfm files for the fonts you want to download to the printer's hard disk. 1. Download the fonts to the printers hard disk. This may be accomplished using the HP Resource Manager, the Macintosh PostScript driver on a Mac or a download utility provided by your font vendor. If the font vendor's utility updates the win.ini file, the driver should be ready to use the fonts installed on the printer's hard disk. 2. If the win.ini file has not been modified. The customer can manually make the following modifications: a. Find the PostScript [driver, port] section in the win.ini file: [PostScript,LPT1] softfonts=1 softfont1=c:\windows\pmsalbr_.pfm softfont2=c:\windows\pmsarlb_.pfm * * * MFDFile=C:\WINDOWS\MSD5C210.MFD b. Increment the "softfonts" number by the number of fonts you plan to add. c. For each font add a "softfont#" entry specifying the full path of the associated "pfm" file. The pfm file contains name, metric and other information about the font. d. Save your updates to the win.ini file and restart your system for the changes to take effect. If you modified the win.ini file successfully you will find a new line added in the "Postscript Section" area (MFDFile=#.MFD). e. Select the corresponding font mapping (TrueType verses PostScript) in the PostScript driver.Download Driver Pack
