See the EPSON Photo!3 User's Guide for details on setup, operation and troubleshooting. Here is some important information about EPSON Photo!3 which may not be in the printed User's Guide. Contents: o Important Notes Windows 98, Windows 2000 o Usage Tips Low Battery Power Multiple Cameras / Memory Cards Windows 95 Serial Port Configuration Disk Space EPSON Program Uploader o Application Compatibility List Windows 98 Windows 95 Windows NT 4.0 o Application Notes o Limitations Serial Port Speed o Notices ________________________________________ IMPORTANT NOTES Windows 98, Windows 2000 The PhotoPC 3000Z/850Z/800 camera supports Plug and Play connection on the Universal Serial Bus for the Windows 98 and Windows 2000 platforms only. Please follow Windows instructions regarding device installation using the supplied INF diskette. ________________________________________ USAGE TIPS Low Battery Power The camera can act unreliably when battery power becomes too low, especially when attempting to transfer images to the computer. EPSON Photo!3 will issue a warning message when it detects battery power dropping below the limits of reliability. Although EPSON Photo!3 will continue to function, further use is not recommended until the batteries have been recharged or replaced. Multiple Cameras / Memory Cards If EPSON Photo!3 is to be used with more than one PhotoPC camera, it is best to close the application before switching cameras and then reopen it to avoid synchronization problems. Likewise, after inserting or removing a Memory card from a camera, be sure to restart EPSON Photo!3. Windows 95 Serial Port Configuration If EPSON Photo!3 is having problems communicating with the camera at higher speeds, adjusting the FIFO buffer size in the advanced serial port configuration dialog box to a lower setting may solve these problems. This is found in Windows 95's Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Communications Port (COM:x) / Properties / Port Settings / Advanced. There is no recommended buffer size because machine speed and configurations vary greatly, so trial and error is the best approach at this time. High-speed serial hardware and drivers that support 230400 bps communication may have additional settings or requirements. Please consult the operating manuals for these products to ensure reliable communication. Disk Space It is important to have plenty of free hard disk space on your computer before downloading images. EPSON Program Uploader If you are a user of a PhotoPC 800 or 850Z camera, and you require the EPSON Program Uploader application, you may find it installed in the following location: C:\Program Files\EPSON\Epphoto3.v1\Program. It's name is uploader.exe. ________________________________________ APPLICATION COMPATIBILITY LIST The TWAIN and OLE transfer capability of EPSON Photo!3 has been verified to work with the following applications: Windows 2000 (TWAIN) Adobe PageMaker 6.5 Adobe Photo Deluxe Home 3.1 Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Corel Photo House 2.0 LivePix 1.1 Microsoft Excel 2000 Microsoft Photo Draw 2000 Microsoft PictureIt! 99 Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Microsoft Word 2000 Picture Publisher 8.0 Windows 2000 (OLE) Adobe PageMaker 6.5 Corel Photo House 2.0 Microsoft Excel 2000 Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Microsoft Word 2000 Windows 98 (TWAIN) Adobe PageMaker 6.5 Adobe Photo Deluxe Home 3.1 Adobe Photoshop 4.0, 5.0 Corel Photo House 2.0 Imaging LivePix 1.1 Microsoft Excel 2000 Microsoft Photo Draw 2000 Microsoft PictureIt! 2.0, 99 Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Microsoft Word 2000 PhotoFinish 4.0 Picture Publisher 8.0 Presto! A few TWAIN applications can only access 16-bit TWAIN Data Sources and therefore will not be compatible with EPSON Photo!3 TWAIN. For example: Sierra Online PrintArtist 3.0 and Aldus PageMaker 5.0 (PageMaker 6.0 is OK). You can still use OLE, or use EPSON Photo!3 to download images to files which may be imported into your 16-bit application. o Some applications can only download one image at a time using TWAIN. For example, Microsoft Imager 2.0, and Media Cybernetics Halo 2.2.02. o During transfer to Microsoft Office applications via the OLE "Insert Object" menu or Drag & Drop, a "Server Busy" dialog may appear. Wait until the application has finished drawing the image, then click "Retry" to continue. o Microsoft Excel 97, 2000: Transfer via the OLE "Insert Object" menu or Drag & Drop command will not work for large images. Other Standard image (640 x 480 pixels) settings will work fine. ________________________________________ LIMITATIONS The following problems are known to occur under the specified circumstances: Serial Port Speed o Most computers contain a serial port UART chip that can communicate at speeds up to 115200 bps. To achieve higher speeds up to 230400 bps, a separate high-speed serial board and/or driver may need to be used. If your computer does not have a high-speed serial board, please do not attempt 230400 bps communication. Some Windows PCs may fail with the 230400 bps setting. ________________________________________ NOTICES EPSON is a registered trademark of SEIKO EPSON Corporation.
