README file for HP DeskJet 1600C NT4 Printer Driver
May 1998
==========================================================

This document contains important information about what
you must check before installing the HP DeskJet 1600C NT4
printer driver software. Before you install the printer
driver, be sure to read this document and fully understand
its contents.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
-----------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the HP DeskJet 1600C NT4 printer driver. The
HP DeskJet 1600C NT4 printer driver is compatible with
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (hereon referred to as Windows
NT 4.0).

-----------------------------------------------------------
Application Specific Notes
-----------------------------------------------------------

Photoshop 4.0 - Output looks mottled or too contrasted
In the Print dialog, change Print as CMYK to Print as RGB.

Microsoft Word - Printing Envelopes
When printing envelopes out of MS Word, Word checks a list
of known printers to decide how to print the address
information on the envelopes. If the printer is unknown,
it uses a default feed path. Since the driver name is
HP DeskJet 1600C NT4, Word does not recognize it and
assigns an incorrect feed path to the envelope. This
results in the return address being cut off.

To correct this, do the following: on the envelopes and
labels dialog, click on the envelope icon under feed.
This will bring up the printing options. Choose the feed
method on the far right, then clear Clockwise Rotation and
select Face Up under Feed Method. This will allow the
envelopes to be printed properly when they are fed into
the printer face up and stamp side first.

Notes for Uninstallation
-----------------------------------------------------------

It is highly recommended that old versions of the HP
DeskJet 1600C driver be removed from Windows NT 4.0 before
installing this new version. There are three methods for
removing the driver.

The recommended method is to use the Uninstall program
located on the HP Deskjet 1600C (Z) diskette to uninstall
older versions of the HP DeskJet 1600C (Z) printer driver.
Insert the diskette in the floppy drive, click Start/Run
and type in a:\uninstal.exe (where A: is your floppy drive).
The program will provide all necessary instructions.

If the automatic uninstall fails or you do not have have
access to the old driver diskettes, use the manual
uninstall instructions provided later in this document.

The third option is to simply open the printers folder
by clicking Start/Settings/Printers. Right-click on the
HP DeskJet 1600C (Z) printer icon and select Delete from
the menu. This method does not remove files installed by
the printer driver.
