(1) OVERVIEW
============

This README explains how to use the program dskfp to test your
network adapter.

Chapter 2 contains a list of all network adapters that are supported by this
program.

Chapter 3 describes the command line options that can be used when starting
the Diagnostic program.

Chapter 4 explains how to use the Diagnostic program to test your network
adapter.

The program dskfp supports the following network adapters:

	*) SK-NET FDDI PCI series

(3) COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
========================

The program dskfp is a diagnostic application. It cannot be started
from the command line. The recommended execution environment is the
diagnostic controler.

(4) HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTICS PROGRAM
======================================

In order to test your adapter please follow the following steps:

Step 1: Install the diagnostic application and its prerequisites.

Step 2: Start the diagnostic controller by typing 'diag'.

Step 3: Select the test method you want to use. (For a detailed description
	of all options please refer to the AIX documentation)

Step 4: Select the adapter you want to test. The diagnostic application
	dskfp is then automaticaly started.

Step 5: Look for a result message.
	NOTE:
	- The diagnostic application may take up to 5 minutes.

The following is a list of error codes which could be displayed in case of
a malfunctioning adapter:

201	Config register test failure.
202	PROM check test failure.
203	Timer and IRQ test failure.
204	Adapter RAM check Failure.
205	ASIC test failure.
206	High memory (ISA) test failure.
207	RAM check via DMA test failure.
208	FORMAC register test failure.
209	PLC1 test failure.
210	PLC2 test failure.
211	FORMAC Ring_Op test failure.
212	Send long frame  test failure.
213	Restricted Token Monitor test failure.
214	Receive queue handling test failure.
215	FORMAC loopback test failure.
216	FORMAC loopback with master access test failure.
217	DMA measurement test failure.
218	Special test failure.
219	Bypass test failure.
301	PLC1 FDDI external wrap failure.
302	PLC2 FDDI external wrap failure.
303	Send long frame FDDI external wrap failure.
304	FORMAC loopback external wrap failure.
700	Error log analysis indicates hardware failure.

	- On fast systems the error 218 could appear occasionaly.

	- Messages of the advanced diagnostic mode are changed.
    Problems fixed:
	- The advanced diagnostic takes up to 12 minutes. This is now
	  stated in the message which is shown during the test.
    Known limitations:

	- Error 211 happened sometimes on MP machines.
	- The DA could cause a SYSINTR when running on multiple adapters
	  at the same time (only on MP machines).
	- There was a problem when stopping the DA immediately after
	  starting. Afterwards the DA could not be started again.
	- On fast systems the error 301 and 302 could appear sometimes.
    Known limitations:
	None.
