INSTRUCT.TXT File 3Com Corporation 3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN CardBus PC Card Configuration and Diagnostic Program Information Overview -------- Your notebook containing the PC Card must be running DOS or DOS-mode only to use this program. The configuration portion of the Configuration and Diagnostic Program allows you to change the configuration parameters for the PC Card to fit the your networking and notebook set up. The diagnostic portion of the Configuration and Diagnostic Program verifies that the PC Card is installed correctly and functioning properly in your notebook. The basic tests check the physical components,connectors, and circuitry of the PC Card and require that the PC Card be installed in the your notebook. The Echo tests check the PC Card's ability to transmit data on the network and require that the Pc Card be connected to a network. Running DOSDIAG.EXE Using Windows 95 or Windows 98 You must run DOSDIAG.EXE from a DOS or DOS-mode command prompt. 1. Restart the notebook. 2. Upon restart, immediately press the <F8> key. 3. At the menu, choose "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" (usually #7) If you decide to run DOSDIAG.EXE from Windows 95, use it only to read the documentation. Do not use it to configure the PC Card or to run COMSLINK.EXE. Configuring the PC Card ----------------------- The PC Card can be configured in either windows mode or command line mode. To start the Configuration And Diagnostic program in windows mode: 1. Insert the LAN Installation Disk. 2. Type DOSDIAG.EXE at the DOS prompt and select Configuration and Diagnostic Program on the main menu. 3. Select the Configure Adapter option in the Configuration and Diagnostic menu. 4. Change the values and exit the program. Command Line Mode ----------------- The command keywords and parameters are not case-sensitive; For example: CONFIGURE, configure, and Configure, all work. While Command Line Parameters are included here for completeness, use of the Command Line Mode may produce unpredictable results. Command Line with Explicit Parameters ------------------------------------- Command syntax: DOSDIAG CONFIGURE [ /AUTO /IOBASE:N /INT:N /OPTIMIZE:N /LINKBEAT:N /TOSHIBA:N ] Each parameter must have the structure "/keyword:value" and contain no blank spaces. For example: /iobase:300 /int:3 Command line configuration parameters are used to configure the PC Card using only the option settings you specify. In most cases, any combination of parameters can be used. You can modify only a few settings if needed. /AUTO The /AUTO parameter configures the PC Card automatically based on the software's best estimate using interpreted system information. /IOBASE I/O Base Address Possible values - 3000,3040,3080,30C0,3100,3140,3180,31C0 3200,3240,3280,32C0,3300,3340,3380,33C0 3400,3440,3480,34C0,3500,3540,3580,35C0 /INT Interrupt Level Possible values - 5,7,9,10,11,12 /OPTIMIZE Network Driver Optimization Possible values - NORMAL (DOS), MAXIMIZED (Windows environment) MIMIMIZED (Server). Default is Maximized. /LINKBEAT Link beat disable/enable (pre-10BASE-T standard only) Possible values - ENABLE, DISABLE NOTE: Try this setting ONLY if pre-10BASE-T standard hubs are in use. /TOSHIBA Toshiba Burst mode disabled or enabled Possible values - BURST, NOBURST If you are using an older Toshiba notebook, using /TOSHIBA: NOBURST may increase performance. Diagnostic ---------- The diagnostic tests are only available in full-screen mode. 1. To run the diagnostic tests, enter: DOSDIAG 2. Select Configuration and Diagnostic Program on the main menu. 3. Select the Diagnostic Tests option on the Configuration and Diagnostic menu. 4. Follow the instructions to run the tests. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
