HARDWARE INSTALLATION 6.1 CD-ROM DRIVE INSTALLATION Please follow these steps to install this CD-ROM drive : 6.1.1 Turn off your computer system and unplug the power cord. 6.1.2 Remove the top cover from the computer. 6.1.3. Remove the cover from an unused 5.25" half-height drive bay on the computer and remove the screws and brackets from both sides of the drive bay. 6.1.4 Place the CD-ROM drive in the bay. 6.1.5 Depend on the design of your computer, do one of the followings : o If mounting rails are necessary for drive installation, attach it in the same way as they are attached to the floppy disk drive. Then, slide the drive into the half-height drive bay. o If mounting rails are not necessary, secure the drive in place with the mounting screws provided in the package. Use screws which are 4 +/- 1 mm in length from the surface of the side panels or the bottom plate. If long screws are used, the CD-ROM drive's internal mechanism can get damaged, preventing normal operation. o Please refer to the document that came with your computer for details. o This CD-ROM drive can be mounted either horizontally 6.2 CABLE INSTALLATION 6.2.1 Connect the 4-pin drive power cable and 40-pin data cable. Depending on the interface card and data cable you have, do one of the following : o If your interface card is IDE card and you have only one hard disk drive; If there are two slots on your data cable, simply connect the CD-ROM drive with the free slot. If there is only one slot on your data cable, please replace this cable by a two slot cable. Then connect the CD-ROM drive with the free slot. o If your interface card is an IDE card and you have two hard disk drives; Replace your IDE card by an enhanced IDE card. An E-IDE card can support up to four drives. You should find that there are two ports (connectors) in the E-IDE card. Each port can hook up with a data cable which, in turn, connect two drives. Buy another IDE card dedicated for a CD-ROM drive. o If your system is not compatible with IDE interface card, please consult with your local dealer to install the CD-ROM drive. 6.2.2 Replace the top cover on your computer. 6.2.3 Plug in the power cord, and turn on the computer. 7.
