* Driver Installation for Windows 98 SE

Note: This guide is intended as an installation guide for all of USB 2.0 
Drivers. The snapshots and text may refer to the PCI to USB Enhanced Host
Controller, this is just used to simplify the guide. Depending upon your 
hardware you could be seeing one of the following:

* Driver Installation Guide Format

This guide is laid out in four sections: Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 98 SE,
New Driver Installation for Windows 98 SE, Updating Drivers for Windows
98 SE, and Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 98 SE.

Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 98 SE: Use these instructions if you already
have an USB 2.0 Controller installed in your system, but have not yet
installed the USB 2.0 driver.

Updating Drivers for Windows 98 SE: Use these instructions if you are already
using the USB 2.0 Controller and driver and want to upgrade the driver to the
latest version.

Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 98 SE: Use these instructions to
verify successful driver installation on your system.


* Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 98 SE

Use these instructions if you already have an USB 2.0 Controller installed; but
you do not have the USB 2.0 driver installed.

1.  Right-click on the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties, then click
    the Device Manager tab.
2.  Select the View Devices by Type option; a yellow question mark will appear
    by Other Devices. This represents the PCI Universal Serial Bus, which is
    the EHCI controller.
3.  Double-click on the PCI Universal Serial Bus and click on the General tab.
    Click on the Reinstall Driver button.
4.  The Update Device Driver Wizard will appear and detect the PCI Universal
    Serial Bus. Click Next.
5.  Select the option to search for the better driver than the one your device
    is using now (Recommended) and click Next.
6.  De-select all checkboxes and select the Specify a location checkbox, and
    click Browse.
7.  When the Browse for Folder window appears, select the folder: 
    {CD-ROM Drive}:\Drivers\USB2 which contains the driver information (.INF file)
    for the device and click OK.
8.  Click Next to continue.
9.  Click Next again in the following window.
10. When Windows has finished copying files, click Finish.
11. Click Close.
12. Then click Close again to continue.


* Updating Drivers for Windows 98SE

1.  Right-click on the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties, and then
    click the Device Manager tab. Click on the "+" (plus) sign next to Universal
    Serial Bus controllers to expand the list.
2.  Select the Asustek USB Enhanced Host Controller and click Properties.
3.  Select the Driver Tab and click Update Driver. The driver information shown
    shows the driver currently being used by the system.
4.  When the Update Device Driver Wizard appears, click Next.
5.  Select the option to search for the better driver than the one your device
    is using now (Recommended) and click Next.
6.  De-select all checkboxes and select the Specify a location checkbox, and
    click Browse.
7.  When the Browse for Folder window appears, select the folder: 
    {CD-ROM Drive}:\Drivers\USB2, which contains the driver information (.INF file)
    for the device and click OK.
8.  Click Next to continue.
9.  Click Next again in the following window.
10. When Windows has finished copying files, click Finish.
11. The driver has now been updated; a screen will appear with the updated
    driver information. Click Close.
12. Then click Close.


* Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 98 SE

Use these instructions to verify successful driver installation on your system.

1.  To verify that the driver is installed; right-click on the My Computer desktop
    icon, select Properties, click the Device Manager tab, and then click on the
    "+" (plus) sign next to Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand the list.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
