* Driver Installation for Windows 2000/XP

Note: This guide is intended as an installation guide for all of
USB 2.0 Drivers. The snapshots and text may refer to the PCI to 
USB Enhanced Host Controller, this is just used to simplify the 
guide. Depending upon your hardware you could be seeing one of 
the following:

* Driver Installation Guide Format

This guide is laid out in four sections: Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 2000/XP,
New Driver Installation for Windows 2000/XP, Updating Drivers for Windows
2000/XP, and Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 2000/XP.

Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 2000/XP: Use these instructions if you already
have an USB 2.0 Controller installed in your system, but have not yet installed 
the USB 2.0 driver.

Updating Drivers for Windows 2000/XP: Use these instructions if you are already
using the Adaptec USB 2.0 card and driver and want to upgrade the driver to the
latest version.

Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 2000/XP: Use these instructions to verify
successful driver installation on your system.


* Reinstalling Drivers for Windows 2000/XP

Use these instructions if you already have an USB 2.0 Controller installed; but
you do not have the USB 2.0 driver installed.

1.  Right-click on the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties, click the
    Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
2.  A yellow question mark will appear by Other Devices. This represents the
    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, which is the EHCI controller.
3.  Double-click on the PCI Universal Serial Bus and click on the General tab.
    Click on the Reinstall Driver button.
4.  When the Upgrade Device Driver Wizards opens. Click Next.
5.  The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box will appear and detect a
    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller. Select Search for a suitable driver
    for my device (Recommended). Click Next.
6.  On the Locate Driver Files window, uncheck all options except Specify a
    location. Click Next.
7.  Type or browse the path {CD-ROM Drive}:\Drivers\USB2 in the following window
    and then click the Open button.
8.  Click OK in the following window.
9.  Click Next to continue.
10. When Windows is finished copying drivers, click Finish.
11. Click Close.


* Updating Drivers for Windows 2000/XP

Use these instructions if you have an USB 2.0 Controller; using an USB 2.0
driver and want to upgrade to the latest version.

1.  Right-click on the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties, click the
    Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
2.  Click on the "+" (plus) sign next to Universal Serial Bus controllers to
    expand the list. Then right-click on Asustek USB Enhanced Host Controller
    and click Properties.
3.  Select the Driver Tab and click Update Driver. The driver information shown
    shows the driver currently being used by the system.
4.  When the Update Device Driver Wizard appears, click Next.
5.  Select display a list of the known drivers for this device, and click Next.
6.  Click on the Have Disk button.
7.  Type or browse the path {CD-ROM Drive}:\Drivers\USB2 in the following window
    and then click the Open button.
8.  Click OK to continue.
9.  Select the model of your USB 2.0 device and then click Next.
10. Click Next to continue.
11. When Windows is finished copying drivers, click Finish.
12. The driver has now been updated; a screen will appear with the updated
    driver information. Click close.


* Verifying Driver Installation for Windows 2000/XP

Use these instructions to verify successful driver installation on your system.
1.  To verify that the driver is installed; right-click on the My Computer desktop
    icon, select Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
2.  Then click on the "+" (plus) sign next to Universal Serial Bus controllers to
    expand the list.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
