Introduction:
=============
   Below are instructions for creating a "/metf" directory for SCO "custom".
   "/metf" directory contains the MDI device driver for Fast Ethernet Adapter.
   MDI drivers are used with SCO's Open Server 5.0 Operating System. Once the
   /metf/VOL.000.000 is created, follow the SCO instructions for using the
   "custom" and "netconfig" utilities to install the driver.


Installation:
=============

  1. Login as root user. (On system maintenance mode)

  2. Put network driver diskette to floppy A: and use doscp command
     to copy the file "install" for installing SCO UNIX Network Driver
     into UNIX's directory.

       # cd /
       # doscp a:/sco/5.x/install /install
       # chmod +x install
       # ./install

       Install PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Driver (MDI)
       Please input source path ? ( ex: a:/sco/5.x )==> a:/sco/5.x
                                                        ^^^^^^^^^^
       (VOL.000.000 file will be created in the /metf directory)

  3. Run custom to enter software manager procedure. From the menu select:

     Software -> Install New -> From scosysv (i.e. local host) ->
     Media Device (select "Media Images") -> keyin full path for "Image
     Directory" (i.e. /metf)

     The "Macronix MX987xx Family Fast Ethernet Adapter MDI Driver (ver 1.0.5)"
     message will appear. Select "Install". When custom has completed,
     quit custom.

  4. Use netconfig utility to add LAN adapter.

        # netconfig

  5. To add adapters, select "Add new LAN adapter" from "Hardware".
     The message "The following adapters have been found:" will appear. Select
     "Macronix MX987xx Family Fast Ethernet Adapter MDI Driver".

  6. Select SCO TCP/IP to add protocol.

  7. Enter the required information and use [TAB] key to press "OK"

       Local Host Name:  |scosysv_____________|
            IP Address:  |192.72.24.55________|
               Netmask:  |255.255.255.0_______|
     Broadcast Address:  |192.72.24.255_______|
           Domain Name:  |scosysv.com_________|
       TCP connections:  |1024________________|
           Pseudo ttys:  |64__________________|

  8. At "Hardware" menu select "Exit" to quit the netconfig utility.

  9. Do you want to relink to kernel now ?               y

 10. Do you want this kernel to boot by default (y/n)    y

 11. Do you want the kernel environment rebuilt (y/n)    y

 12. Reboot unix.

         # shutdown -y -g0

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
