ReadMe.txt July 6, 2001. This document is for the Linksys Wireless Access Point (WAP11) firmware upgrade to 1.4f and driver upgrade to 1.0.0.4. NOTE: If your driver is already version 1.0.0.4 or above, skip to the section below titled: "Installing Firmware Upgrade Software", otherwise, follow the full instructions below to uninstall your old driver, and install the new driver BEFORE upgrading the firmware. To verify your driver version: 1. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties" from the menu. 2. In the "System Properties" window, click on the "Device manager" tab. (For Windows 2000 users: in the "System Properties" window, click on the "Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager" button in the middle of the window.) 3. Look for the category "Linksys WAP11" and click on the plus symbol to expand it. 4. Select "Linksys WAP11 USB Device Driver" to highlight it, click on the "Properties" button, and click on the "Version" tab. Firmware Upgrade --------------------------------- In order to upgrade the firmware for the WAP11, please be aware that you must first remove the old USB driver and install the driver version 1.0.0.4. If the WAP11 USB driver upgrade is not performed before the WAP11 firmware upgrade, the Wireless Network Access Point may become inoperative. Please check with the user guide for more information regarding the installation of a driver. Removing the Old USB Driver ----------------------------- It is important that you remove the old driver and install the new driver before upgrading the firmware to avoid any complications. For instructions on the removal of old drivers, please refer to the section below associated with your PC Operating System. Win9x & Windows Me ------------------ 1. Remove the following INF files: c:\windows\inf\briddfu.* 2. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties" from the menu. 3. In the "System Properties" window, click on the "Device manager" tab. 4. Look for the category "Linksys WAP11" and click on the plus symbol to expand it. 5. Select "Linksys WAP11 USB Device Driver" to highlight it, and click on the "Remove" button to remove the driver. 6. Close all the windows and install the new drivers using the files that were included in the wap11_upgrade_1_4f_5.zip file. Please reference the User Guide for instructions on installing a new driver. Win2000 ----------- 1. Remove the following INF Files: c:\winnt\inf\briddfu.* c:\winnt\inf\oem*.* 2. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties" from the menu. 3. In the "System Properties" window, click on the "Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager" button in the middle of the window. 4. Look for the category "Linksys WAP11" and click on the plus symbol to expand it. 5. Right-Click on "Linksys WAP11 USB Device Driver", and select "Uninstall" to remove the driver, and click on "OK". 6. Close all the windows and install the new drivers using the files that were included in the WAP11_upgrade_1_4f_5.zip file. Please reference the User Guide for instructions on installing a new driver. Installing Firmware Upgrade software ------------------------------------------ Once the old driver has been removed and the new driver has been installed: 1. Double-Click on the Disk1 folder from the unzipped files. Double-Click on the setup.exe icon. 2. Follow the Wizard to complete the installation. After the installation is complete, close any windows that may have been left open. 3. Click on Start - Programs - Linksys WAP11, and select "Linksys WAP11 USB Upgrade Firmware to 1.4f Program". 4. Click on "Upgrade firmware to 1.4f" to start the upgrade process. 5. The upgrade will show a progress bar as it is updating. 6. After the upgrade is complete, close all the windows and run the WAP11 Utility program. If this program has already been installed, click Start - Programs - Linksys, and select "WAP11 USB Configuration Utility". Refer to the User Guide for instructions on using the utility. If the utility has not been installed, it can be downloaded from the Linksys web site in the Driver Download section, choose the wap11utility.zip file.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
