IBM TrackPoint Support for Windows

DOWNLOADING/CREATING DRIVER DISKETTE
===========================================
To download the drivers for your Trackpoint 4.0 or higher keyboard or your Space Saver II keyboard, go to the IBM web support site (www.pc.ibm.com/support)and go to the downloadable files section for the appropriate keyboard. 

1.	Create a temporary directory on the system.  Choose any directory name you 	desire. (Example c:\tpkey)
2. 	Double-click on the file, W32TP4206.EXE
3. 	When prompted, enter the directory created in step 1 for the download location 	of the file.
4. 	Go to the directory created in step 1, enter the execute the file 	W32TP4206.EXE.
   		C:\tpkey\W32TP4206.exe 
		(where c:\tpkey is the directory created in step 1)
5. 	The file is a self-extracting executable and will ask you where you want the    	files to download to. The default is A:\.  
6.	After the files are extracted, refer to the readme file for instructions 	regarding installation for your OS (read9xNT.txt for Win95/98/NT 4.0, 	readmw2k.txt for Win2000)
7. 	After successfully installation, the temporary directory and all 	contents 	created in step 1 can be removed.

This diskette (or folder) contains the software support for the IBM
PS/2 TrackPoint Keyboard and Space Saver II Keyboard on Windows 95, 
Windows 98, and Windows NT version 4.0.

This diskette also contains support for some builds of Windows
2000.  For more information, see the file READMW2K.TXT.

The file SETUP.BAT is intended for use ONLY with Windows NT 4.0.  Do
not execute SETUP.BAT on any other system.

This software is intended for use with the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint
Keyboard, version 4.0 or later and Space Saver II Keyboard.  For earlier 
versions, no special software is needed.

Installation for Windows 95/Windows NT 4.0
------------------------------------------
  1. Start Windows 95/Windows NT 4.0.
  2. Insert the TrackPoint Driver Diskette into the diskette drive.
  3. On the Taskbar, click the Start button.
  4. Select Settings, Control Panel.
  5. Double Click on the Mouse icon.
  6. Select the General tab at the top of the Mouse Properties panel.
  7. Click on the Change button.
  8. Click on the Have Disk button.
  9. Enter "A:\common".
 10. Click on the OK button.
 11. Select IBM PS/2 TrackPoint from the list.
 12. Click on the OK button.
 13. Click on the Close button on the Mouse Properties panel.
 14. Restart your computer so the new settings will take effect.

Installation for Windows 98
---------------------------
  1. Start Windows 98.
  2. Insert the TrackPoint Driver Diskette into the diskette drive.
  3. Click on Start.
  4. Move the cursor to Settings;then click on Control Panel.
  5. Double Click on the System icon.
  6. Click on Device Manager tab at the top of the "System Properties" window.
  7. Double-click on Mouse.
  8. Double-click on PS/2 Mouse Port or IBM PS/2 TrackPoint.
  9. Click on the Driver tab.
 10. Click on the Update Driver... button.
 11. Click on Next.
 12. Click on Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location.
 13. Click on Next.
 14. Click on Have Disk.
 15. Enter "A:\common".
 16. Click on OK.
 17. Click on IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
 18. Click on Next.
 19. If "Update Driver Warning" window appears, click on Yes.
 20. Click on Next.
 21. Click on Finish in the "Update Device Driver Wizard" window.
 22. Restart your computer so the new settings will take effect.



Uninstallation for Windows NT 4.0
---------------------------------
  1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
  2. On the Taskbar, click the Start button.
  3. Select Settings, Control Panel.
  4. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
  5. Select "IBM TrackPoint Support 2.0".
  6. Click "Add/Remove".
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Control Panel, double-click Mouse.
  9. Click on the "General" tab.
 10. Click "Change..."
 11. Click "Show all devices"
 12. In the left-hand box, select "(Standard mouse types)".
 13. In the right-hand box, select "Standard PS/2 Port Mouse".
 14. Click OK.
 15. When a "Confirm Device Install" warning appears, click "Yes".
 16. When a "General" warning appears, click "No".
 17. If the "Insert Disk" warning appears, click "OK" and direct the
     installation to your CDROM drive containing your Windows NT
     CDROM.
 18. Click "Close".
 19. If a "System Settings Change" dialog appears, click "Yes".

Uninstallation for Windows 98
-----------------------------
  1. Start Windows 98.
  2. On the Taskbar, click the Start button.
  3. Select Settings, Control Panel.
  4. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
  5. Select "IBM TrackPoint Support 2.0".
  6. Click "Add/Remove".
  7. If a "System Settings Change" dialog appears, click "No".
  8. Click OK.
  9. In the Control Panel, double-click System.
 10. Click on the "Device Manager" tab.
 11. Double-click "Mouse".
 12. Double-click "IBM PS/2 TrackPoint".
 13. Click on the "Driver" tab.
 14. Click "Update Driver...".
 15. Click "Next".
 16. Click "Display a list of all the drivers...".
 17. Click "Next".
 18. Click "Show all hardware".
 19. In the left-hand box, select "(Standard mouse types)".
 20. In the right-hand box, select "Standard PS/2 Port Mouse".
 21. Click "Next".
 22. Click "Next".
 23. Click "Finish".
 24. If a "System Settings Change" dialog appears, click "Yes".

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
