COMPATIBLE OPERATING SYSTEMS Windows 95 OSR2 or later Windows 98/98SE (Second Edition) Windows NT4.0 SP4 or later PC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Pentium processor 16MB system memory =================================================================== Installation =================================================================== 1 Connect the HiFD drive to your computer. 2 Insert the installation CD disk into your computer's CD-ROM drive. The [HiFD Software Installation] dialog will start automatically. * If [HiFD Software Installation] dialog does not start automatically, open [My computer] and double click [HiFD Software] CD icon. 3 Click the [Install HiFD Software] button. 4 Complete the installation by following the instructions displayed on the computer's display screen. 5 Restart your computer. 6 Confirm that the HiFD drive exist in "My Computer". =================================================================== HiFD Utilities =================================================================== HiFD Icon Displays HiFD icon on HiFD drive. Note: To activate this program, IE4.0 and Active desktop are necessary. HiFD Eject Eject a disk displaying eject animation. Automatic disk eject at system shutdown (optional). HiFD Copy Make a copy of Floppy or HiFD disk. HiFD Format Initialize a disk with the correct HiFD format. Supports full format (format with data erase). <<Context menu>> After installation of the HiFD software, context menu of LoFD and HiFD drives are changed as follows: LoFD drive (FDD part of HiFD drive) Add [<HiFD> Eject] command. Replace [Copy Disk...] with [<HiFD> Copy Disk...]. HiFD drive Replace [Eject] with [<HiFD> Eject]. Replace [Copy Disk...] with [<HiFD> Copy Disk...]. Replace [Format...] with [<HiFD> Format...]. Note: <HiFD> means small HiFD icon in context menu. By these commands, you can execute HiFD utilities as follows: [<HiFD> Eject] HiFD Eject [<HiFD> Copy Disk...] HiFD Copy [<HiFD> Format...] HiFD Format Note: HiFD Icon starts automatically at system boot. If the optional shutdown eject function is enabled, disks in LoFD or HiFD drive will be ejected automatically during system shutdown. =================================================================== Uninstall =================================================================== When you need to remove the HiFD software from a Windows system, start [Add/Remove Programs] in the [Control Panel], select [HiFD Software] in the list and click on [Add/Remove] button. =================================================================== Precaution =================================================================== > Use the included [HiFD Format] utility to format HiFD. Other formatter and the Windows formatter are not compatible with the required HiFD format. > Do not format a disk while other application is accessing the disk. Do not try to access a disk while is being formatted. > Contents of a HiFD window may not be refreshed automatically when a file is copied or created. In those cases, use View/Refresh function or close and reopen the window. ================================================================== Notes for Windows NT 4.0 system ================================================================== >Installation requirements for Windows NT 4.0: -Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or higher -IDE controller device driver compatible with the HiFD drive Note: If the HiFD software is installed with an incompatible IDE device driver, the Windows NT operating system might display a HiFD Registry error. -Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher >The included HiFD software is compatible with the native Microsoft IDE ATAPI controller device driver. However, the operating system might display a HiFD Registry error if the HiFD software is installed and the Intel PCI Bus Master IDE controller is still enabled. Before you install the HiFD software, prepare your computer for successful HiFD installation by using these instructions: 1) Turn on the computer and note the version of the currently installed Service Pack displayed during startup. If the service pack is lower than Service Pack 4, go to the Microsoft Web site and follow the installation instructions. 2) Click Start. 3) Point to Settings and click Control Panel. 4) Double-click on SCSI Adapters. 5) Click Properties. 6) Click the Driver tab. 7) If the Driver File is ATAPI.SYS, click OK twice, close the Control Panel window and go to step 17. 8) If the Driver File is PIIXIDE.SYS or INTELATA.SYS, click OK twice and continue with step 9. 9) In the Control Panel window, double-click Devices. 10) In the Devices list, find and click piixide or intelata and then click Startup. 11) In the Startup Type panel, click Disabled and then click OK. 12) In the Devices list, find and click ATAPI ; then click Startup. 13) In the Startup Type panel, select Boot and click OK. 14) Click Close. 15) Close the Control Panel. 16) Restart your computer to confirm the new settings. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
