IMPORTANT POWER MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
If you are using a laptop system to upgrade your modem we highly recommend that you plug your laptop into an electrical outlet to prevent possible battery failure during the upload process. Also if you are using Windows 95 Osr 2 or Windows 98 we recommend that you turn of power management while perfoming the upgrade. To turn of power management goto Control Panel, choose Power, then select the PC Card Modem tab. Verify that the Turn of PC Card modem while not in use button is NOT checked.

Some Laptop manufacturers have implemented thier own proprierty power saving technology. Please refer to your laptops documentation on how to disable the power saving features of your laptop before flash upgrading your modem.

Updating Your Modem Driver in Windows 95

We strongly recommend that you backup your existing firmware when given the option. This gives you the option of restoring your old code if you experience any problems with the new rev.

1. From Windows 95/98 do Start / Run. From Window 3.1/3.11 do File / Run.
2. Browse to the directory that you unzipped the files in and run Flashcom.
3. After Flashcom detects your modem it will give you the option to backup your existing firmware. We strongly recommend that you do this. This will allow you to return to your previous version of firmware.

Now that your modem is updated to V.90 you need to update your driver. To do this you first need to remove the old drivers then install the new one.

To remove your old modem drivers from Windows

1. Click Start / Find / Files or Folders.
2. Leave the Named field empty.
3. In the Look in field, Browse to C:\Windows\Inf\Other. If this directory doesn't exist then browse to C:\Windows\Inf.
4. Select the Advanced tab.
5. The Of type field should say All Files and Folders.
6. In the Containing text field enter PCMCIA\ZOOM
7. Click the Find Now button, and Windows will search the files for your modem.
8. Delete the file(s) that Windows found.

You’ve now removed your modem’s drivers. Now you want to uninstall your modem.

Removing Your Modem From The Modems Control Panel

1. Select Start / Settings / Control Panel
2. From the Control Panel double-click Modems.
3. Select your modem then choose remove.

Now to reinstall your driver you need to reboot your computer. After it reboots it will detect your modem as new hardware and look to install the driver. Browse to the directory that Flashcom is in so Windows can find the driver.

What to do if you've upgraded your modem to V90 but you need to go back to K56Flex.

1. Refer to the online help that comes with Flashcom. This will explain how to return to your failsafe backup version of code.
