INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR THE SYM53C885 DIAGNOSTICS
******* Introduction *******
This file describes how to load and run the diagnostics.
The SYM53C885 Diagnostics is a DOS only program.
******* Description *******
885DIAG is a diagnostics program for the Symbios Logic
SYM53C885 Ethernet host adapter. Use 885DIAG if you are
having problems when installing your host adapter. To run
885DIAG, boot to DOS, make sure no ethernet device drivers
are loaded in your system, and follow the instructions below.
******* Installing The SYM53C885 Diagnostics *******
Use the DOS COPY command to copy the 885DIAG.EXE program
from your PC floppy disk drive to your boot hard disk drive.
Example syntax: copy a:/885diag.exe to c:/ <enter>
Copy the following files to a disk which has at least 50K free
space and is not write protected:
885DIAG.EXE
885DIAG.HLP
VTGRAY.PCX
E_DIAG.DAT
******* Using the SYM53C885 Diagnostics *******
From your boot hard drive run the diagnostic program 885DIAG.EXE.
Example syntax: c:\885diag.exe <enter>
From the menu bar select the TEST option.
From the TEST option select ALL to run all the diagnostic tests.
To learn more about 885diag or any of its tests, use the on-line
help system. Invoke help either from the main menu bar or by
pressing F1 at any time. Other common keys to use in 885diag are:
F1 = Help
F3 = Close the current window
F5 = Refresh the screen
F10 = Activate the menu
ALT-F6 = Switch to the next window
ALT-F9 = Minimize
ALT-F10 = Maximize
ENTER = Execute operation
Spacebar = Select the current item
TAB = Move to next field
SHIFT-TAB = Move to previous field
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
