IR Port Driver Installation Procedure for Windows 95              
                                                          /DEC. 4, 1998

1. Enable IR function in BIOS setting.

2. Double click on "My Computer", "Control Panel", and then "System".

3. Select "Device Manager", and then double click on "Ports (COM & LPT)".

4. Check if "Communication Port (COM2)" exists. If it exists, then 
   continuing. If not, please use "Add new hardware" in "Control Panel"
   to add COM2 before proceeding. 

5. Insert the Notebook L7200/7300 Series Driver & Utility CD-ROM disk.
   The L7200/7300 Series Notebook PC CD will appear and the choose
   the "FIR". If it does not appear, run "D:\FIR\WIN95\Setup.exe".

6. Click on "Yes" to install "Microsoft Infrared Support Version 3.0".

7. Click on "Next>" to confirm "Add Infrared Device Wizard".

8. Choose "Microsoft" in the "Manufacturers" column and "Standard 
   Infrared Serial (COM) Port" in the "Infrared Devices" column.

9. Click on "OK" to continue.

10.Click on "OK" for "Insert Disk" and locate Windows95 source files.

11.Click on "Yes" to keep the "ndis.vxd" file.

12.Choose "Generic Infrared Port" in the "Infrared Transceiver" column 
   and then click on "Next>".

13.Choose "Communication Port (COM2)" to connect to and then click on
   "Next>". 

14.Choose "Use default ports (recommended)" and then click on "Next>".

15.Click on "Finish"

16.Do NOT reboot the system at this time as "System Settings Change".

17.Go to "Device Manager" of "System" in "Control Panel".

18.Double click on "Network Adapters" and then click on "Standard 
   Infrared Serial (COM) Port".

19.Click on "Remove" and then "OK" to confirm to move "Standard 
   Infrared Serial (COM) Port" away.

20.Click on "No" to NOT reboot the system at this time.
 
21.Double click on "Ports (COM & LPT)" of "Device Manager" and then 
   click on "Communication Port (COM2)".

22.Click on "Remove" and then "OK" to confirm to move "Communication 
   Port (COM2)" away.

23.Click on "Close" of "System Properties".

24.Reboot now.

25.After rebooting the system, locate Windows95 source files.

26.Insert the Notebook L7200/7300 Series Driver & Utility CD-ROM disk 
   and then get the "wbfirpio.sys" file in the path "D:\FIR\WIN95\" 
   of the disk.

27.Click on "No" to NOT reboot the system at this time.

28.Double click on "My Computer", "Control Panel", and then "Network".

29.Click on "Yes" to continue the network installation.

30.Click on "Add" and then choose "Protocol".

31.Click on "Add"

32.Choose "Microsoft" in the "Manufacturers" column and "Fast Infrared 
   Protocol" in the "Network Protocols" column.

33.Click on "OK" to install.

34.Click on "OK" in "Configuration" of "Network".

35.Click on "OK" for "Insert Disk" and locate Windows95 source files.

36.Click on "Yes" to keep the "secur32.dll" and "ndis.vxd" files.

37.Insert the Notebook L7200/7300 Series Driver & Utility CD-ROM disk 
   and then get the "fastir.vxd" file in the path "D:\FIR\WIN95\" 
   of the disk.

38.Click on "Yes" to reboot to finish the installation.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
