Installing OmniBook Docking System Support If you are going to use the OmniBook Docking System you must install new IDE and SCSI drivers in Windows NT. The OmniBook Docking System IDE driver is located on the hard drive and Recovery CD at \OMNIBOOK\DRIVER\DOCKING\IDE and \OMNIBOOK\DRIVER\DOCKING\SCSI 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Click the View menu, then Options. 3. Select Show all files and uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types, then click OK. 4. Copy the files and subdirectories in \OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\DOCKING\IDE to a floppy disk. 5. From the Control Panel, double-click SCSI Adapters, then click Drivers. 6. Click Add. 7. Click Have Disk. 8. Enter A:\WINNT and click OK. 9. Click OK to accept the CMD 64xx 32-Bit IDE Adapter. 10. Enter A:\WINNT and click Continue. 11. Click No do not restart. 12. Copy the files and subdirectories in \OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\DOCKING\SCSI to a floppy disk. 13. Click Add. 14. Click Have Disk. 15. Enter the A:\WINNT\MINIPORT directory and click OK. 16. Click OK to accept the Symbios Logic PCI (53c8XX). 17. Enter the A:\WINNT\MINIPORT directory and click Continue. 18. Click Yes to restart the OmniBook. You can now dock the OmniBook in the OmniBook Docking System. However, Windows NT does not support Hot Docking. You must restart the system before docking or undocking. Also when you start Windows NT you may receive errors concerning drivers for hardware currently not installed (i.e. SCSI and CMD IDE driver when undocked. You must create Windows NT Hardware profiles and disable the correct hardware drivers in each profile. Refer to your OmniBook Docking System documentation for information on creating hardware profiles. After creating a hardware profile for the docking station, you must disable the PIIX IDE driver in the docking profile and the SCSI and CMD IDE drivers in the Original profile to avoid error messages. These steps can be performed while docked or undocked. 1. From the Control Panel, double-click Devices. 2. Select the entry marked "Csa64xx" and click HW profiles. 3. Select the entry for the undocked profile (or original configuration) and click Disable. The entry for the docked profile should remain enabled. 4. Click OK. 5. Select the entry marked "piixide" and click HW profiles. 6. Select the entry for the docked profile and click Disable. The entry for the undocked profile should remain enabled. 7. Click OK. 8. Select the entry marked "symc8xxx" and click HW profiles. 9. Select the entry for the undocked profile and click Disable. The entry for the docked profile should remain enabled. 10. Click OK. 11. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
