=== CMD IDE Windows 95/98 Driver Update Web Package 9/23/99 ===

--- Overview ---

The CMD IDE driver provides support for the IDE controller used in
the HP full docking system (part number F1477A).

This package provides a way to install the correct Windows 95/98
IDE driver for docking stations manufactured after approximately
May 1999.

If the correct IDE driver is not installed, you may see these
symptoms: being prompted for IDE driver install during initial
dock setup, getting a blue screen message about drivers running in
MS-DOS compatibility mode, and yellow error indications in Device
Manager under hard disk controllers.

This problem affects the internal IDE controller as well as the
IDE controller in the docking station. Therefore, the problem
should be corrected even if IDE devices in full dock will not be
used.

If your computer has the standard OmniBook Windows 95 or 98
software load, follow the instructions under "Installing the
Update" below. If it does not use the standard OmniBook load, then
please first read "Technical Notes" below.

--- Installing the Update ---

There are two general cases corresponding to whether the unit has
been docked and already encountered the problem described above or
whether this is being taken as a preventative measure.

>>If you have already encountered the problem:

1. Download this package to the computer's hard disk.

2. Run UPDATE.BAT from the directory containing this package.

3. Dock the computer. You must do this before running SETUP.EXE.

4. Run SETUP.EXE from the C:\OMNIBOOK\DRIVERS\DOCKING\IDE
   directory.

5. Follow the prompts to update the CMD driver and restart the
   computer. During the restart, the correct CMD IDE driver will
   be installed.

>>If you have NOT yet encountered the problem:

1. Download this package to the computer's hard disk.

2. Run UPDATE.BAT from the directory containing this package.

3. Dock the computer. The correct CMD IDE driver will be
   installed.

--- Technical Notes ---

1. UPDATE.BAT copies files to directories as listed here. If
   directories do not exist, they are created. The value of
   environment variable %windir% is typically c:\windows.

csa64xx.mpd --> %windir%\options\cabs
cmdide.vxd --> %windir%\options\cabs
cmdide.dll --> %windir%\options\cabs
cmddma.inf --> %windir%\options\cabs

cmddma.inf --> %windir%\inf

csa64xx.mpd --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide
cmdide.vxd --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide
cmdide.dll --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide
cmddma.inf --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide
readme.cmd --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide\readme.txt
setup.exe  --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide
setup.txt  --> c:\omnibook\drivers\docking\ide

2. In the standard OmniBook load, when the unit is docked the
   cmddma.inf file in %windir%\inf is used and the drivers are
   automatically installed from %windir%\options\cabs.

3. If the standard OmniBook load is not being used, then there are
   two cases to consider.

a. If problem has already been encountered, it is recommended to
   follow the instructions under Usage. However, this may create
   unwanted directories. An alternative is:

- Download this package to the unit's hard disk.

- Dock the unit. This must be done before executing SETUP.EXE.

- Execute SETUP.EXE from the download directory.

b. If problem has not yet been encountered, then the files from
   the update package should replace the corresponding files on
   the disk. Remember that windows\inf is a hidden directory.
   Once this is done, if the unit is subsequently docked to one
   of the new docking stations, the correct CMD driver will be
   automatically loaded.
