This document contains information about the customization of RTL8139x driver for 
Mac OS X.

1. Verdnro ID and Device ID
1.1 Mac OS X do the matching of a PCI adapter with it's driver by using the adapter's 
    vendor ID and device ID. If the vendorID/deviceID is not 10ec/8139, please tell
    Realtek CN Owen, and he will add your specific vendorID/deviceID into the driver.

2. Driver package and installation
2.1 The r39kext.tar contains rtl8139.kext, the driver for rtl8139. Please tar -xvf it
    in Mac OS X and you will get a folder, rtl8139.kext. Please rename it to your 
    specific folder name.
2.2 Please use "PackageMaker" included within the develoer CD of Mac OS X to package
    the rtl8139.kext or your specific .kext into an installable package. Please 
    refer to the chapter 4 of "INSIDE MAC OS X: Kernel Extensions Tutorials" for the 
    details.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
