For example, when installing from Drive A, you need to define A: as the path. To completely install IntelliPoint functionality, you need to run Setup.exe from your product disk. 1.2 Replacing a two-button pointing device with an IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall pointing device When you replace your two-button pointing device with an IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall, you need to install the accompanying IntelliPoint software to enable the wheel and wheel button functionality. If you install your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall pointing device without installing the IntelliPoint software, the wheel and wheel button may not work. NOTE: When you replace your two-button pointing device with an IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall, you may not see a message informing you of new hardware installed when you restart your computer. >>>To fix this problem: 1 Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, and then click Mouse. 3 Select the serial device, for example Standard Serial Mouse, and then click Remove. 4 Restart your computer. If your computer does not detect your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall after restarting, try running Setup.exe on your product disk. 1.3 Using CorelDRAW 6.00.112 with IntelliPoint software If you use CorelDRAW version 6.00.112 with IntelliPoint software, you may get a general protection fault when you open CorelDRAW. Until you receive your upgrade to CorelDRAW version 6.00.167 or later, you can temporarily fix this error by disabling Point32.exe while using CorelDRAW. To disable Point32.exe, do one of the following: * In Windows 95, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to display the Close Program dialog box. Select Point32, and then click End Task. * In Windows NT 4.0, press Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click the Task Manager button. In the Task Manager, select Point32, and then click End Task. * In Windows NT 3.51, use File Manager to rename the file Point32.exe to another name, and then restart your computer. Click OK when Windows informs you that a program listed on the run line is not available. Remember to restore the original name once you upgrade CorelDRAW. 1.4 Using the wheel in windows with multiple scroll bars Windows that contain frames can have multiple scroll bars that may require you to click the content within the window to activate scrolling with the wheel. A frame is a separate, scrolling area within the window. For example, when using Microsoft Internet Explorer, if your window contains multiple frames with scroll bars, you may need to click the content of the window to activate scrolling with the wheel. 1.5 Using the wheel with Packard Bell's Media Controller The wheel and wheel button do not function properly with Packard Bell's Media Controller. If you have problems with Packard Bell's Media Controller, connect your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall to the mouse port on the back of your computer. 1.6 Using the PS/2 port on your laptop computer Many laptop computers have an internal (PS/2) pointing device (IPD) that may cause your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall to work improperly when attached to the PS/2 port. The problem is most likely because both the IPD and your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall are trying to use the PS/2 port at the same time. To fix this problem, try one of the following: * Disable the IPD or Simultaneous mode, using the BIOS setup program. Not all laptop computers have this feature. See your laptop computer documentation to change settings with your BIOS setup program. * Connect your pointing device to the serial port. 1.7 Using a BIOS setup program to enable your mouse port If you enable your mouse port (PS/2 port) using a BIOS setup program, your computer will detect a PS/2 device when you use Add New Hardware, even without a PS/2 device connected. When your computer detects a nonexistent pointing device, you will see an exclamation point beside the PS/2 Mouse icon. >>>To display the PS/2 Mouse icon: 1 Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, and then click Mouse. To fix this problem, do not enable your mouse port using your BIOS setup program. ================================== Part 2: NOTES FOR WINDOWS NT USERS ================================== 2.1 Installing Windows NT 4.0 when IntelliPoint software is installed If you upgrade to Windows NT 4.0 from Windows NT 3.5x with IntelliPoint, the Windows NT 4.0 default Mouse Properties software replaces the IntelliPoint software. Although Windows NT 4.0 works with the IntelliMouse and IntelliMouse TrackBall, not all of the IntelliPoint features are available with the Windows NT 4.0 Mouse Properties software. To have access to all of the IntelliPoint features, reinstall the IntelliPoint software. 2.2 Installing IntelliPoint software requires system-administrator security privileges You need system-administrator security privileges to install IntelliPoint software on Windows NT systems. For information on system-administrator security, see your Windows NT documentation. 2.3 Installing IntelliType software In Windows NT 3.51 only, if you lose the wheel and wheel button functionality after installing IntelliType 1.1 software (available with the Microsoft Natural Keyboard), simply run Setup to reinstall the IntelliPoint 2.1 software, which updates the files needed to work with your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall. 2.4 Attaching multiple pointing devices in Windows NT If you attach both an IntelliMouse pointing device and a second mouse of a different type (such as a Microsoft Mouse without a wheel), you may encounter the following problems: * If you reset the right button to be the primary button using the Button Selection feature on the Basics tab in IntelliPoint, the second mouse does not recognize the change. * You cannot use the second mouse to set Orientation on the Productivity tab in IntelliPoint, and the second mouse does not recognize any changes you make using the Orientation feature. * In Windows NT 3.51 only, the wheel and wheel button on the IntelliMouse pointing device do not function. NOTE: This does not apply to an external mouse attached to a laptop with an internal pointing device. 2.5 Using an IntelliMouse TrackBall or a dedicated PS/2 IntelliMouse on Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 If you do not install IntelliPoint software on Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3, you cannot use the wheel or wheel button on an IntelliMouse TrackBall or a dedicated PS/2 IntelliMouse. You may have a dedicated PS/2 IntelliMouse if you purchased it from an OEM. To fix this problem, install IntelliPoint software. 2.6 Using a Cybex AutoBoot 4xP switch When using a Cybex AutoBoot 4xP switch with your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall, your pointing device may have problems working with attached computers. The Cybex AutoBoot 4xP attempts to detect the pointing device, but results in erratic operation. To fix the problem on Windows NT, do one of the following: * Upgrade the XPLU/LCI firmware to revision C02 (or higher) and XPAC/XPAB firmware to revision C04 (or higher). * Disable the wheel using the Registry Editor. CAUTION Incorrect use of the Registry Editor can cause serious problems that may require reinstallation of Windows NT. Read "Changing Keys and Values" within the Registry Editor online Help for instructions on how to edit with the registry. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. >>>To disable the wheel with the Registry Editor: 1 Create an Emergency Repair Disk using the Repair Disk utility, rdisk.exe, located in the \WinNT\system32 folder. 2 Click the Start button, click Run, type REGEDT32 in the Open field, and then press Enter. 3 In the Registry Editor, open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, open System, open CurrentControlSet, open Services, open i8042prt, and then click Parameters. 4 In the right window, double-click EnableWheelDetection. 5 Type 0 in the Value data field, and then click OK. 6 Close the Registry Editor. 7 Restart your computer. 2.7 Panning in Windows Explorer is disabled in Windows NT 4.0 Windows NT 4.0 includes scrolling, but does not include panning; therefore, you cannot use the IntelliPoint panning feature with Windows Explorer in Windows NT 4.0. Panning enables users to click and hold the wheel button to scroll through the window. 2.8 Driver or service fails to start in Windows NT 3.51 or later When you install IntelliPoint software and then restart your computer, you may receive a message saying that a driver or service failed to start. This message is caused by the system trying to find all of the devices on each PS/2 or serial port. Receiving this message does not affect the performance of your pointing device. >>>To fix this problem: 1 Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Double-click Devices. 3 Select the mouse port not in use, mssermou, and click Startup. 4 Select Disabled, and then click OK. 5 Close all applications and restart your computer. NOTE: Disabling mssermou will prevent your computer from automatically detecting a serial mouse if you connect one to your computer. 2.9 Using the wheel with PointCast Network software in Windows NT 4.0 If you install PointCast Network software after installing IntelliPoint software, you may experience problems with the wheel functionality. Installing PointCast Network software after installing IntelliPoint software disables the Double-Click and Help (F1) features if you assigned them to the wheel. To fix this problem, upgrade to the latest version of PointCast, which is a 32-bit version. 2.10 Preventing serial device warnings in your Event Viewer When you use a Microsoft Mouse, IntelliMouse, or IntelliMouse TrackBall in Windows NT 3.51 or later, without a second serial device installed, you may receive an entry in the Event Viewer for mssermou each time you start your computer. This entry is only a warning that no serial device was detected and does not affect the use of your IntelliMouse or IntelliMouse TrackBall. >>>To see if you have mssermou warnings in your Event Viewer: 1 Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools (Common), and then click Event Viewer. 2 Scroll down to locate mssermou entries. >>>To prevent mssermou warnings in your Event Viewer: 1 Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Double-click Devices. 3 Select mssermou, and click Startup. 4 Select Disabled, and then click OK. 5 Close all applications and restart your computer. Intergraph Bulletin Board Service (IBBS): Available to all software customers. IBBS enables you to exchange messages and files with Inter- graph's technical and marketing staff, as well as with other Intergraph customers, using a modem. As an added benefit, for U.S. customers with valid maintenance contracts or pro- ducts under warranty, problem worksheets can be logged on IBBS: 1. Connect to the IBBS by setting the communication pro- tocol to eight (8) data bits, no parity, one (1) stop bit, and any baud rate up to 14,400 bps. IBBS phone numbers are 205-730-8786 (up to 14.4K bps) and 205-730-6504 (up to 2400 bps). 2. Once connected to the IBBS, respond to the login request with the appropriate user ID. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
