Dual virtual screen and dual physical screen configurations are also available. This release of the Intergraph S3 Display Driver will install and run only on Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00. This driver supports multi-sync video monitors only. -------------------------- End of Version Information -------------------------- ------------------------------ System Requirements ------------------------------ Operating System: Windows NT 4.0 Hardware required: Intergraph S3 display adapter -------------------------- End of System Requirements -------------------------- -------------------------- New Features -------------------------- o Provides support for the Intergraph S3 display adapter under the Windows NT 4.0 operating system. -------------------------- End of New Features -------------------------- --------------------------------- Installing and Running INGRS3DRV --------------------------------- The Intergraph S3 display driver utilizes the S3 928 display adapter present in the TD1 platforms. This driver will not run on the Intergraph 433 or 466 machines since these machines do not have the S3 928 graphics subsystem. WINDOWS NT 4.0 SETUP -------------------- 1) Log into the system as Administrator. 2) To select the Intergraph S3 display driver, click the right mouse button in the desk top and select "Properties" in the pop-up menu to activate the "Display Properties" dialog. 3) Select the "Settings" Tab. 4) Select the "Display Type..." button. 5) Select the "Change..." button beside the Adapter Type string. 6) Insert your diskette with the INGRS3DRV product files on it into the floppy drive and select "Have Disk..." from the "Change Display" dialog. 7) A dialog will appear asking for the full path for the OEM display driver files. The default path given will be A:\ Select "OK" when ready. 8) A dialog will appear indicating the driver to be loaded. The selection should be "Intergraph S3 Display Driver". Select "OK." 9) A dialog will appear asking to proceed with the third party driver installation. Select "YES". 10) A dialog box should appear telling that the drivers were successfully loaded. Select "OK." 11) Eject the diskette from the floppy driver and select the "Close" button on the "Display Type" dialog. 12) Select the "Close" button on the "Display Properties" dialog. 13) A final dialog box pops up at this point with the message that the display settings have changed and restarting Windows NT will be necessary for the new settings to take effect. Select either "Yes" to restart now or "No" to defer restarting the system. 14) The Intergraph S3 Display Driver will be loaded during system boot and will be in the default (1024 x 768 x 8) resolution. After logging on, the resolution can be changed in the "Display Properties" dialog. 15) Following the system shutdown and subsequent logon, a dialog will appear stating that the current settings are invalid. This dialog appears the first time you logon every time you change the display driver. Select OK and configure the display settings as desired. S3 Resolutions ============== The resolution can be changed in the "Displays Properties" dialog. 1) Choose the Display icon in the Control Panel. 2) Choose the "Settings" Tab. 3) The Display applet will limit the resolution/refresh rate choices to those supported by the S3 Display Driver. The S3 Display Driver will support standard multisync monitors, however some multi-sync monitors may not sync at the higher refresh rates at higher resolutions (eg. 72 Hz instead of 60 Hz). In other words, lower performance monitors will require the slower 60 Hz vertical refresh. The recommended procedure is to test any new resolution settings before selecting "Apply" or "OK" in the Settings display properties page. Single Screen Configurations ---------------------------- The Intergraph S3 driver supports the following resolutions: Resolution Colors Frequency Video Memory 640x480 256 72 Hz 2 Meg 640x480 65536 72 Hz 2 Meg 640x480 16.7M 72 Hz 4 Meg 800x600 256 72 Hz 2 Meg 800x600 65536 72 Hz 2 Meg 800x600 16.7M 72 Hz 4 Meg 1024x768 256 70 Hz 2 Meg 1024x768 65536 70 Hz 2 Meg 1024x768 16.7M 70 Hz 4 Meg 1280x1024 256 60 Hz 2 Meg 1280x1024 65536 60 Hz 4 Meg The following resolutions are available on a 19" monitor only: 1280x1024 256 72 Hz 2 Meg 1280x1024 65536 72 Hz 4 Meg The 1280x1024 resolutions must run at 60 Hz on the 17" monitors. The software, however, cannot prevent the user from selecting the 72 Hz refresh rate. If this happens, the monitor will not be able to syncronize after the system is rebooted. See the section entitled "Trouble Shooting" for further discussion. Dual Virtual Screen Configurations ---------------------------------- The following virtual screen configurations are supported: Resolution Colors Frequency Video Memory (1024x2)x768 256 70 Hz 2 Meg (1024x2)x768 65536 70 Hz 4 Meg 1024x(768x2) 256 70 Hz 2 Meg 1024x(768x2) 65536 70 Hz 4 Meg (1280x2)x1024 256 60 Hz 4 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 256 60 Hz 4 Meg The following resolutions are available on a 19" monitor only: (1280x2)x1024 256 72 Hz 4 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 256 72 Hz 4 Meg NT recognizes the screen as a contiguous canvas for the dual virtual screen resolutions. Dual Physical Screen Configurations ----------------------------------- The following dual physical screen configurations are supported: Resolution Colors Frequency Video Memory (1024x2)x768 256 70 Hz 2 Meg (1024x2)x768 65536 70 Hz 2 Meg (1024x2)x768 16.7M 70 Hz 4 Meg 1024x(768x2) 256 70 Hz 2 Meg 1024x(768x2) 65536 70 Hz 2 Meg 1024x(768x2) 16.7M 70 Hz 4 Meg (1280x2)x1024 256 60 Hz 2 Meg (1280x2)x1024 65536 60 Hz 4 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 256 60 Hz 2 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 65536 60 Hz 4 Meg The folowing resolutions are available on a 19" monitor only: (1280x2)x1024 256 72 Hz 2 Meg (1280x2)x1024 65536 72 Hz 4 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 256 72 Hz 2 Meg 1280x(1024x2) 65536 72 Hz 4 Meg Single screen modes are still valid for systems with two graphics boards. The second monitor will remain blank. NT recognizes the screen as a contiguous canvas for the dual physical screen resolutions. Trouble Shooting ================ IF YOU BOOT NT AND THE SCREEN DOES NOT SYNCHRONIZE PROPERLY, DO THE FOLLOWING: Reboot the system to NT, but hit the space bar immediately when prompted. Select "Use Last Known Good" in the Configuration Recovery Menu. This approach assumes the last configuration was a valid configuration, however. If the "Last Known Good" method does not apply to your case, try selecting the VGA option from the system boot menu. Selecting this option will boot NT with the VGA driver instead of the S3 Display Driver. At this point you can reinstall the S3 Display Driver. If all else fails: Reboot the system to DOS and remove the file S3INGR.SYS in directory \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. Reboot the system again to NT. Since the Intergraph S3 Display Driver has been removed, NT will use the Microsoft standard VGA driver. A proper resolution can then be selected through NT Setup, which will re-install the S3 Display Driver. If your system does not have DOS (NT only), and your installation of NT uses the standard DOS file system (FATFS), you may boot from floppy then remove this file from the system drive. If your NT system was built on OS/2, or if your NT resides on HPFS, you may boot from an OS/2 system recovery (boot) floppy and remove the file. If you have an NTFS-formatted system disk, you will need to reload the NT Operating System (you should choose to not reformat your system disk during reinstallation, in order to preserve your software and data). ---------------------------------------- End of Installing and Running INGRS3DRV ---------------------------------------- ------------- Documentation ------------- The Intergraph Bulletin Board Service provides current information on documentation for this or other Intergraph products.
