PenMount Touch Screen Kits is a turn-key solution to upgrade your product
to have touching function. PenMount product supports DOS, Windows,
Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT/2000 ,WimCE,Linux and OS/2 operating system under PC environment.
A. PenMount Touch Screen Kits
PenMount Touch Screen Kits include four items:
a. Touch screen
b. PenMount Controller board or ASIC
c. PenMount Driver diskette
The driver diskette includes DOS drivers
B. HOW TO INSTALL PENMOUNT DOS DRIVERS TO YOUR COMPUTER
1. INSTALL PENMOUNT DOS DRIVER
-- BEFORE INSTALLATION
Please select on COM port (com1, com2, com3 or com4) to connect PenMount
Touch Screen product to your computer by RS-232 cable. The PenMount touch
screen RS-232 connector is 9-pin D-sub connector.
The PenMount DOS driver diskette contains the following files:
INSTALL.EXE -- General purpose installation utility
README.TXT -- The file for installing the drivers
_INST.EXE
ICECREAM.EXE-- The demonstration program, icecream order
ICECREAM.KEY
PMDETECT.EXE-- to identify the communication port and IRQ
number for PenMount Touch Screen. The detecting
data will be written to PMOUSE.CFG file

PM.BAT -- to check, change or test the PenMount Touch Screen
PMINIT.BAT -- to start up PenMount driver in system

Step 1 Using 'INSTALL.EXE' utility to install PenMount software driver
To install PenMount software under DOS mode. Insert the driver
diskette to floppy disc driver and type 'INSTALL' . e.g. A:\INSTALL
You will see the screen show "Salt International Corp. PenMount
Install Utilities, To install the PenMount Package into your hard
disk". Press 'ENTER' key to allow PenMount install the drivers to
drive C or use keyboard to key-in the hard disc drive which you plan
to install the drivers.
After installing the PenMount drivers to system, the driver will ask
"Do you want to modify your Autoexec.bat to initialize PenMount? (Y/N)
Suggest you choose 'YES' for generating the initialization instruction
in AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Follow the message to complete the installation.
Step 2 Identify the communication port and IRQ number
If you are the first time to install the driver, or change PenMount
Touch Screen's com port, please use PMDETECT to check the com port no
and IRQ number. PMDETECT will save the correct data to PMOUSE.CFG
file for further use.
e.g. C:\PENMOUNT\PMDETECT
You will see the driver is detecting your communication port and
IRQ number from COM1 IRQ4, COM2 IRQ3, COM3 IRQ4, ...... COM4 IRQ15.
until PenMount find the com port and IRQ number automatically.
The screen will show :
PenMount is initialized successfully!!!
Create file 'pmouse.cfg'. Success.
PenMount internal settings:
Comm. Port: COM<n> IRQ<n>
.........
.........
........
The data will be saved until you change the communication port or IRQ
number.
If you do not like this "PMDETECT" to detect any IRQ number, the commands
is also to instruct, for example, if you do not need to detect IRQ5 of
the system, the command is instructed as below:
e.g. C:\PENMOUNT\PMDETECT -N5
For example, if you do not need to detect IRQ5 and IRQ9 of the system,
the command is instructed as C:\PENMOUNT\PMDETECT -N5 -N9
Step 3 Do Calibration
To adjust the touch screen mapping properly to display screen.
Type Calibrate under Utility directory
e.g. C:\PENMOUNT\PM
choose '1' DO CALIBRATION (adjust screen mapping)
The display will ask you to select video mode number, select by
keyboard your display mode to start the calibration.
Touch the upper-center point, then touch the right-center point,
bottom-center point and left-center point. After doing calibration,
the data got will be showed in the screen, press any key to continue
the progress.
After doing the calibration, suggest you test the touch screen and
display mapped results by choose '4' DRAWING TEST under PM.BAT
Step 4 Initializing the PenMount driver
If you do not put the initialization command in AUTOEXEC.BAT, do the
initializing of PenMount driver before you use the PenMount Touch
Screen. e.g. C:\PENMOUNT\PMINIT
The display will show the message twice, the initialization message
is showed as below:
PMSET V1.00 Copyright (c) SALT International Corp.
Test: COM<n> IRQ<n> ..... (<n> is the number after PMDETECT done)
Open configuration file 'C:\PENMOUNT\PMOUSE.CFG' . Success.
Initialize PenMount Device Data ................ OK!
PenMount communication settings: COM<N> IRQ<n> Baud Rate: <xxxx>
additional:
If you need hide cursor function, you can modify 'PMINIT.BAT'
last command line. It's instructed as below:
e.g. pmouse -i << C:\penmount\pmouse.cfg /H /C

Step 5 Demonstration
To demostration program is named 'ICECREAM.EXE' which is in
the 'PENMOUNT' directory.
Now, the PenMount DOS driver is installed well, followings are the functions
of 'PENMOUNT'
a. Change communication baud rate
To change the baud rate from 1200 to high baud, use PMDETECT to check
the baud rate of your controller first and then follows up below to change
baud rate.
C:\PENMOUNT\PM
Choose '3' CHANGE DETAIL SETTINGS (for the controller)
The display will show '<V1.00> PenMount Setting' message, choose '1'
Communication setting, select '3' Baud Rate and press 'ENTER', use
up or down arrow key to move to the baud rate place and press 'ENTER'.
b. Show Current Setting
The current setting data could be found from PM.BAT file.
C:\PENMOUNT\PM
Choose '2' SHOW CURRENT SETTINGS
c. Other setting
Sampling Rate changed could be from 'Other settings' under '(3) CHANGE
DETAIL SETTINGS (from the controller) of PM.BAT file. The suggest number
for sampling rate is 7 or 6.
Up-down Threshold changed could be from 'Other settings' of PM.BAT
Suggest figure is 7.
d. Getting Touch's data
By using PMGET.EXE, you could get the touch's data, for example, if touch
is in COM1 and baud rate is 19200, typing
C:\PENMOUNT\PMGET COM1 19200

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
