Then copy the file @5130.ADF from this diskette to the backup copy Reference Diskette. You'll need this backup diskette to configure your system after you've installed the SoundPiper card. Installing the SoundPiper ========================= 1. If you have been using your system, turn your computer off. 2. Remove the computer's cover. 3. Select the expansion slot where you will install the SoundPiper. 4. Remove the blank expansion slot cover from the computer back panel at the position where you will install the SoundPiper. 5. Insert the SoundPiper card into the selected system expansion slot. 6. Connect the internal CD-ROM audio cable if appropriate. 7. Replace the cover on the system unit. 8. Connect the appropriate interface cables between the SoundPiper connectors and your sound output (speakers) or input (microphone) devices. 9. Turn the computer on. If you have an older PS/2 system, use the backup copy of your Reference Diskette you prepared earlier for startup. Run the automatic configuration option in the 'Set Configuration' program. If you have a newer system, the program, supplied on your hard disk, will start automatically. The SoundPiper hardware installation is complete. ===================================================================== ==== Section 2 ==== ===================================================================== Windows 95 Installation Procedure ================================= Direct-X support is available for the SoundPiper 16/32 under Windows 95 using the drivers located on this diskette. You can use the Media Player to play MIDI and WAVE files. You can use the Volume Control to adjust the input and output levels. Installing AudioRack32 ====================== You must have Windows95 installed prior to using AudioRack32. After placing the AudioRack 32 diskette into your diskette drive, click START on the taskbar and choose RUN from the popup menu. In the Run dialog box, type the letter of the drive and "\setup" (for example, a:\setup), then click OK. The first AudioRack32 Setup dialog box appears. Note the instructions, then click NEXT to proceed or CANCEL to leave Setup. Next the Choose Destination Location dialog box appears. Click NEXT to install the AudioRack32 in the default directory or BROWSE to choose a different directory. When you are finished click OK or CANCEL to return to the Choose Destination Location dialog box. If the directory you designate doesn't exist, you will be asked to confirm your selection. Click YES to proceed or NO to go back and enter a new destination directory. Once you have chosen the default directory or entered a directory of your own choosing, the Setup program will install the AudioRack32. Changing Settings ================= Disable Eject Button on the CD Player ===================================== In the file "auddrive.ini", there is a string "DisableEjectButton=0" under the section "cdplayer". If you would like to disable EJECT button on the CD player, you can change the value from 0 to 1. You need to close AudioRack and launch it again to make the new settings take effect. Auddrive.ini is a configuration file located in your Windows directory. If it does not exist, you can generate it by launching AudioRack. Use AudioRack32 CD Player as the Default CD Player ================================================== During installation, you will be asked if you want to use AudioRack CD player as the default CD player. Normally the Windows 95 CD player is the default. If you answer "YES", the installation program will overwrite the value of the key [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]\AudioCD\shell\play\command in registry. You may switch back to Windows 95 CD player any time by resetting this key value. Known Problems ============== Long File Names and the Audio Recorder ====================================== The Audio Recorder is a 16-bit application. For that reason, it has trouble with long file names. This may cause an error message if you click the EDIT button on the Digital Audio Player to edit a wave file which happens to be in a directory with a long file name. However, you can still load the file from the Audio Recorder window. ===================================================================== ==== Section 3 ==== ===================================================================== Contacting Piper Research, Inc. =============================== Piper Research technical support may be contacted by the following methods.
