WELCOME ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations on being the owner of a TTX monitor. We think you have made a wise choice in monitors and want you to know we have been committed for years to delivering you the best value and service for your money. The information contained in this disk will help you set up your monitor for Windows 9x as well as provide additional information helpful for getting the most out of your display. GETTING HELP ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have trouble setting up your display for Windows 9x please call your dealer first. They will be more aware of important considerations like the type of video card and display drivers you are using. Your dealer can help you identify the problem and save you from dropping equipment off to a repair depot that has nothing wrong with it. IMPORTANT MONITOR INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) First step is to ensure your video card and display drivers are installed properly. Without the proper setup you will not get the performance from your monitor that you should. Images may appear to flicker, be fuzzy or distorted. This holds true with any operating system. SERIOUS DAMAGE CAN RESULT FROM SETTING THE VIDEO CARD TO EXCEED THE MONITOR'S CAPABILITY!! MOST VIDEO CARDS DEFAULT TO THE LOWEST, SAFEST SETTING TO PREVENT SUCH DAMAGE. THIS MUST BE CONFIGURED SO THAT YOU GET THE FULLEST OF YOUR MONITORS CAPABILITY WITHOUT CAUSING HARM! 2) Keep your original packaging. If you purchase many monitors keep at least some of the original boxes. These may be needed for shipping in future to best protect your monitor from damage. Most couriers, even local ones will not pay a damage claim on a monitor not shipped in original packing. 3) One of the most common problems people experience with their monitor is when using a VGA extension cable. This will usually create a white or fuzzy vertical line in the image. If an extension cable is needed please be sure to buy a good quality "shielded" cable. They cost more but they work right. 4) Your monitor's picture tube has likely been treated to reduce one or all of the following: static, glare & reflection. This should be cared for like any other quality optical device. Please take care to clean with a lint-free non-abrasive cloth and a non-alcohol, neutral, non-abrasive cleaning solution or glass cleaner. Damage by harsh cleaning is not covered by warranty. SELECTING THE RIGHT TTX MONITOR FOR WINDOWS 95 and WINDOWS 98 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Put the attached file named TTX.INF on a diskette. Click on the START button with your mouse. Select Control Panel. Double-click on the Display icon. You will now be at a folder where all of your display options are set. You can also reach this by clicking your right mouse button on the desktop, select Preferences, then select Display. Click on the Settings folder. Click on Change Display Type. Where it says Monitor Type click on the box labeled Change. Click on the box labelled "Have Disk.." and follow the instructions as to the drive that the diskette with the TTX.INF file on it. This will add a list of all TTX monitors. Select the one that you actually have (if you're not sure check the label on the back of the monitor). Select OK to keep and apply the change and Winows 9x will do its thing to change your display. You should now be able to select any resolution that both your monitor and video card are capable of. ERGONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- For optimal display and ergonomics we recommend the following resolutions for your monitor size: 14" - 640x480 resolution 15" - 800x600 resolution 17" - 1024x768 resolution 20" - 1280x1024 resolution 21" - 1280x1024 resolution It is important also to know about refresh rate. This is the number of times per second your screen is re-drawn. This is counted in Hz (Hertz) and the higher the number the more solid your image will be with less flicker. At 60Hz you may notice flickering, especially when working with fluorescent lights. VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) sets the standards that most display devices conform to. Their recommendation is 70Hz or better for a flicker-free image. If you are using your computer continually you should make sure that your system is set up to run at this refresh rate or higher. This will give you the most comfortable display over the long term. You want to be sure that your video card is working in "non-interlaced mode" (means that each line of your screen is drawn consecutively in one pass), and not in "interlaced mode" (draws every other line of your screen in one pass then draws the other lines in the next pass). Interlaced mode has a lot of flicker and if used for long periods can cause eye fatigue & headaches. Using more colours in any resolution will use up more of your video card's memory and reduce the highest possible refresh rate at that resolution. eg. A 1MB video card running 640x480 resolution may have a very high refresh rate at 256 colours but only 60Hz when displaying 16.7 Million colours. TTX REPAIR POLICY AND PROCEDURE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the event you have trouble with your TTX display please contact your dealer first whenever possible. They can help determine if it is actually the monitor at fault or, quite often something related to other hardware or software. This can save you unnecessary downtime. Also, your purchase price from your dealer may include additional support beyond our depot warranty like entended warranties, on-site service or loaners. Equipment for repair will be accepted only if an RMA number has been obtained from the Service Department of TTX. A full description of the problem, the model number and serial number will be required to obtain an RMA. All repairs must be delivered or shipped to TTX prepaid (WE REFUSE ALL COLLECT SHIPMENTS) in original packaging with a copy of the invoice. User or transit damage will not be covered by warranty. We cannot stress enough how important original packaging is. It is designed to best protect the monitor in shipping. Most couriers will not pay claim on any damage incurred in non-original packing. When returning repairs to TTX please identify them with the RMA Number on the box. This will speed up turnaround time. All "No Fault Found" repairs (warranty or out of warranty) can be subject to a $25.00 handling charge.
