 =====   RDC-7 USB Driver (Windows 98) README.TXT  =====

This is a Windows USB driver for use with the RDC-7 digital camera. 

You can connect the RDC-7 to your Windows ME PC via USB with the the RDC-7 Explorer Plug-In or the RDC-7 TWAIN driver.

Please familiarize yourself with the following information and the information contained in the operation manuals before installing this driver. 

==Important== 

This USB driver is exclusively for use with Windows Me. It is not intended for other operating systems.

1. Operating Environment

Compatible camera: RDC-7 series

Operating System requirements: A pre-installed version of Windows Me running on a computer with a USB port equipped as standard, the operation of which is guaranteed by the manufacturer.
 
Memory requirements: 32MB (96MB or more recommended)

Connection cable: Please use only the cable that was included in the RDC-7 package.

==Important==

*This USB driver cannot be used with operating systems other than the one specified.
*Computers that have been upgraded from an operating system other than the one specified cannot be supported and operation is not guaranteed.
*Connection via retrofit USB ports (i.e., those that were added using an expansion feature like PCI bus) cannot be supported.
*Changes in the operating system or new service packs may cause incorrect operation.
*This driver may fail to operate correctly if used in conjunction with a USB hub or other USB devices.
*To handle large files, such as uncompressed RDC-7 files or motion pictures, it is recommended that you use this driver in environments with larger memory capacity.

2. Cautionary Information Regarding Driver Installation

Prior to Setup

*Quit all running applications and save all necessary data. Disconnect any other USB devices and Plug & Play devices. This driver cannot be installed by Plug & Play; please install from "Setup.exe".

2-1 Setup from CD-ROM

*Do not connect the RDC-7 to the computer until the installation is complete. If you have already connected the RDC-7 and turned it on, restart the setup process after referring to the Troubleshooting section of the "Connecting to a Personal Computer" operation manual.

(1) Double-click "Setup.exe" to launch the installer, which will install the driver.
(2) Restart your computer.
(3) After the computer has rebooted, connect the RDC-7 and the computer with the USB cable provided and turn the RDC-7 on. When Windows recognizes the camera the "New Hardware" window will launch and begin to build a driver database. Please wait until it finishes. (The driver database will only be built the first time you connect the RDC-7 to your computer. It will not appear during subsequent connections.)

2-2 Uninstalling the USB driver

(1) Connect the RDC-7 and the computer via the USB cable and turn the camera on.
(2) Launch the Device Manager [Control Panel-->System-->Device Manager]
(3) Select "Ricoh Camera Port" from under Port (COM/LPT) and click "Delete"; select "Ricoh USB Virtual Com" from under Universal Serial Bus Controller and click "Delete".
(4) Turn both the computer and the RDC-7 off and remove the USB cable.
(5) Turn the computer back on.
(6) Now uninstall the USB driver by selecting "RDC-7 USB driver" from the Add/Remove Applications menu in the Control Panel and clicking Delete.
2-3 Upgrading the USB driver
First uninstall the old driver by means of the uninstallation procedure above, then install the new driver by means of the setup procedure above.

**CAUTION**
(1) Never disconnect the cable or switch off the camera while data is being transmitted, as doing so may adversely affect the camera, the computer, or both.
(2) Whenever possible, use the AC adapter instead of batteries to power the camera, especially when transferring uncompressed files or motion pictures. Should power failure occur during transmission, it may adversely affect the camera, the computer, or both.
(3) The camera does not operate with power supplied from the USB port.
(4) If you make a mistake in the operation of this product that produces an malfunction, data loss could result.
(5) Understand that Ricoh disavows any responsibility for damages resulting from loss of data or damage caused to this or other devices as a result of mishandling, improper use, poor condition of equipment or any other reason.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
