1. Overview
================================================================

    This file gives information about the installation,
    features and requirements of Windows 9x drivers
    for the DataFire Basic ISDN-board.

    The following components are part of the driver package:
    --------------------------------------------------------

    - Common ISDN API (CAPI) version 2.0
      ---------------------------------------------------
        Two application interface libraries are part of this
        driver package: "Capi2032.dll" and "Capi20.dll".
        Capi2032.dll is the interface for Windows 32-Bit
        applications.
        Capi20.dll includes the 16-Bit interface.

    - Wan Miniport Driver
      -------------------
        The Wan Miniport Driver can be used to setup connections
        via Dial-Up Network.

2. System Requirements
================================================================

    Software
    --------
    If you are using Windows 95 with the Wan Miniport driver,
    you will have to install Microsoft Dial-Up Networking
    (1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, which is the latest released
    version). Downloads are available on Microsoft Web-Servers
    (http://www.microsoft.com)

    Windows 98 already includes Dial-Up Networking 1.3. You may
    have to reinstall it from the Windows-Setup ('Control Panel->
    Add/Remove Programs->Windows-Setup->Communications->
    Dial-Up Networking')

    Hardware
    --------
    PC/AT compatible computer (>=80386)

    for DataFire Basic ISA
    ----------------------
    1 free 16 bit ISA/EISA slot for the DataFire Basic/ISA board
    1 free interrupt (IRQ)
    1 successive free i/o port addresses, selectable from following ranges:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
     - 0x380-0x387
     - 0x388-0x38F
     - 0x390-0x397
     - 0x398-0x39F
     - 0x3A0-0x3A7 (Hardware Version 1.2 or later)
     - 0x3A8-0x3AF (Hardware Version 1.2 or later)

    for DataFire Basic PCI:
    -----------------------
    1 free PCI slot for the DataFire Basic/PCI
    1 free interrupt (IRQ)

    Bus interface
    -------------
    The DataFire Basic boards support the ISA and PCI-Bus .

    It is also possible to configure the DataFire Basic ISA board for the EISA-Bus.
    NOTE ! ! !
         In EISA-Bus systems it is possible to share IRQs. DataFire boards in your
         system should share one IRQ to save resources. For more details to
         configure DataFire boards for the EISA-Bus look the manual
         "DataFire Basic Installation Guide".

         Please make sure that the DataFire Basic board for EISA-Bus has been
         configured for the EISA-Bus before you use it.

    PCI support
    -----------
    This version of the DataFire Basic download software supports the
    DataFire Basic PCI board. There is no need to adjust IRQ or IO base.
    Please make sure during the installation that the IRQ is not occupied.
    The easiest way is to enable the automatic IRQ grant for PCI adapters
    in the system BIOS.
    If you want to install the DataFire Basic board in a multiple PCI bus motherboard
    (NOTE: NOT PCI slots !!!) you have to select the bus
    (where the DataFire Basic board is installed) in the properties of the adapter (Control Panel->Network).

3. Installation/Configuration
================================================================

    To install the card driver software, open the 'Network'
    applet in control panel, click on 'Add' and select
    'Network Adapter' from the list. In the opened dialog,
    click on 'Have Disk', browse to the folder where the
    installation files are located (e.g. 'a:') and click on 'OK'.
    Select 'DataFire Basic' from the list and follow the
    installation instructions.

    If you want to configure the adapter (concerning the
    D-Channel protocol, Leased Lines-Variants...), go to
    the 'Adapter' page as described above, select the
    DataFire Basic and click on 'Properties'. For detailed
    information about settings see the manual.

    Compression
    -----------

    The data compression for reliable data connections
    is activated on default. If there is a compatible
    software at the connection partner, the best possible
    compression method is chosen for this connection.
    If you want to stop the automatic compression negotiation,
    you are able to define the compression method manually in
    the Windows9x registry.

    Start the registry-editor: "START"->"Run"->"regedit".
    Browse for the following 'key': "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"->
    "System"->"CurrentControlSet"->"Services"->"Class"->
    "Net"->"00xx"->"Line1". (There are possibly more 'keys'
    under "Net" - 00xx is the 'key' where you can find the
    string "AdapterName CSSBASIC"). Create a new entry
    'CompressionType' under this 'key' (Menu "Edit"->"New"->
    "String Value") if it does not exist yet. Mark this entry
    and change its value via "Edit"->"Modify".
    Use one of the compression type values mentioned below:

    compression types:
    ------------------

    value:   meaning:
    ------   --------
     1 no compression (disable any compression)
     2      V.42bis
     3      ITK_COMP (Digi compression)
     4 optional compression (board offers V.42bis and Digi compression)
     5      CAPI1plus defined

    For further details look the manual "Installation and Interfaces".

4. WAN Miniport Driver
================================================================

    You can use the WAN Miniport Driver to make connections via
    Dial-Up Networking. Two devices will be installed:

                Wan Miniport-Channel 0
                Wan Miniport-Channel 1

    You can use these devices e.g. to connect to your internet
