WAN Miniport driver for Windows 95 Version 1.0 ======================================================================= This file contains additional information that should be read prior to installing the driver(s). Contents: 1. Features and properties of this version 2. Installation procedure 3. History of changes 4. Known Problems 1. Features and properties of this version ------------------------------------------- The WAN Miniport driver provided in this directory is a generic CAPI application that can be used on top of a properly installed CAPI 2.0 supporting ISDN board. All board specific configuration items must be adjusted via the extra property pages provided by the ISDN board configuration or the Microsoft ISDN Configuration Wizard. Following features are included with this version: - connect as a remote node to a RAS server (either Windows NT or Windows 95) - allow dial in as a Windows 95 RAS server - Since Microsoft supports only one ISDN connection at a time under Windows 95 this driver it is not possible to connect to more than one destination concurrently. - Microsoft supports the dial-up to a RAS server with PPP-Multilink support making use of 2 b-channels for one logical connection. This has been tested. - No support of multiple ISDN adapters; due to the above mentioned restrictions, this is not very important, anyway. - Support of "Accepted MSN" to specify calls to which MSN should be accepted. - Support of "Own MSN" to specify which MSN is calling on generating a call. - If the ISDN configuration values that are set with Microsoft's ISDN Configuration Wizard are used or not, depends on the individual ISDN board driver, i.e. CAPI driver. 2. Installation procedure ------------------------- 1. Install ISDN accelerator pack from Microsoft; this can be found in directory English (english version) or in directory German (german version). Just run the file DEMSISDN.EXE from Windows 95 explorer. 2. Add the dial-up adapter to the Windows 95 network configuration and bind the desired protocols 3. Install, if not already done, the respective CAPI 2.0 driver of your ix1 board. 4. Enter Windows 95's network configuration again, and add the WAN Miniport driver by pressing "Add" and selecting "Adapter", "Have Disk" and so on. After the driver installation no settings need to be made. 5. Reboot the machine. Open the "dial-up-network" after reboot and run "Make new connection". This will show up a screen that lets you select the "ITK WAN Miniport" under "Select a modem". Proceed as if you were using a modem. 3. Known Problems ----------------- - The ISDN Accelerator Pack Version 1.1 seems to have a severe bug concerning the IPX protocol. The actual throughput with IPX on a file copy towards the remote system is very close to 60 kBit/sec, while the netto throughput is less than 40 kBit/sec. Since the same behaviour can be observed with already certified drivers from competitors and does not show up with other protocols (IP, Netbeui) we believe that it is caused by a bug in the ISDN Accelerator Pack.
