For a complete list of adapters supported by this driver see Part 2 of this readme file. Contents Part Description 1 Installation 3 Features 2 Requirements 3 Known Problems 4 Uninstalling the Software Part 1: Installation -------------------- Driver Update Installation: If you already have a previous version of Digi's Windows 95/98 serial driver installed on your system, you will need to remove that configuration before installing this new driver. Restart your system and proceed with the New Installation instructions which follow. New Installation for PCI adapters: --------------------------------- Install the Digi PCI adapter, and boot Windows 95/98. Windows 95/98 will detect the new adapter, and will display a 'New Hardware Found' message. This message will be followed by 'Windows has found new hardware and is installing the software for it.' At the 'Select which driver you want to install...' prompt, select the 'Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer' option. Click 'OK'. Then specify the driver file location, and click 'OK'. A 'Building driver database information file' message will display briefly. If you are installing an AccelePort 4r PCI or an AccelePort 8r PCI, you will be prompted to select which adapter is installed. The Ports Configuration property page will be displayed for you to view the assigned port names. For an Xem, you will need to configure the PORTS modules that are connected to your adapter. On-line help is available for more intormation. When finished, click OK. Installation is complete! If you need to edit the configuration of the attached ports: From the Windows Control Panel, start the 'System' wizard. Select the 'Device Manager' tab. (If you 'view devices by type', the Digi device will be listed under 'Digi Intelligent Async adapters'.) Highlight the Digi adapter entry, and select 'Properties.' Select the Port Configuration tab. NOTE when removing PCI adapters: If you need to remove the adapter from your system, you must use the System Device Manager to remove the device driver before you physically remove the adapter from your system. (See Section 7: Uninstalling the software). If you don't remove the driver before removing the adapter from the system, Windows 95 does not disable the port assignments for a configured PCI adapter that is not physically installed. But the removed adapter will no longer be shown in the Device Manager device list. This means that there is no easy way reclaim the port names that were assigned to the removed PCI adapter. New Installation for ISA adapters: --------------------------------- Digi has created it's own Windows 95/98 device class. On your first installation, the Digi device class will be added to Windows 95/98. From there after, when using the 'Add New Hardware' wizard or 'System Device Manager' wizard look for the device under the 'Digi Intelligent Async adapter' hardware type. Here are the steps to install the Digi driver: 1) Add New Hardware to Windows 95/98: From the Windows 95/98 Control Panel, start the 'Add New Hardware' wizard. -- To begin installing new hardware, click 'Next'. -- To the prompt Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware?, select No. Then push the Next button. -- Highlight 'Other Devices' hardware type, and click 'Next'. ( Note, an subsequent installs you will be able to select 'Digi Intelligent Async adapters' as the hardware type.) -- Click 'Have Disk..' -- On the 'Install From Disk' applet, enter the drive or directory location of the Digi Windows 95 driver files and click 'OK'. -- A list of Digi's hardware choices will be displayed. Select your hardware adapter from the list and click 'Next'. -- Write down or print the displayed list of hardware settings. (If you need to, you can adjust these settings later by using the Device Manager in the System control panel.) -- Click 'Next'. The driver files will be copied to your system. A 'Building driver database information file' message will display briefly. -- The Ports Configuration property page will be displayed for you to view and edit the assigned port names. Part 2: Requirements -------------------- These installation instructions are for use with Windows 95 or Windows 98. Digi Adapter Support This driver supports the following Digi intelligent async adapters: PCI Adapters Digi AccelePort 2r 920 RS-232 PCI Digi AccelePort 4r 920 RS-232 PCI Digi AccelePort 8r 920 RS-232 PCI Digi AccelePort 4r RS-232 PCI Digi AccelePort 8r RS-232 PCI Digi AccelePort 4r RS-422 PCI Digi AccelePort 8r RS-422 PCI Digi AccelePort Xem PCI ISA Adapters Digi AccelePort 2e (8K) Digi AccelePort 4e (8K) Digi AccelePort 8e (8K) Digi AccelePort 4r Digi AccelePort 8r Digi AccelePort Xem Digi AccelePort 4r 920 RS-232 ISA Digi AccelePort 8r 920 RS-232 ISA Digi DOS Driver The Digi DOS driver must not be installed. Remove the following line from your config.sys file: DEVICE=C:\..\XIDOS5.SYS. Part 3: Known Problems ---------------------- Install New Modem on port above COM10 The Modem wizard will not attempt to detect modems attached to ports above COM10 - it only searches ports COM1 through COM10 for an attached modem. This problem has been reported to Microsoft. Modems can be used on any port of the 128 ports, but ports above COM10 will need to be assigned using the port selection box. The port can be selected when the modem is first installed, or it can modified at a later time by using the Modem wizard Properties button. Error message with Digi PCI adapters: Adapter could not be set to use the specified Interrupt (IRQ) The interrupt line assigned by the system BIOS is already in use and the other device does not share interrupts. As a work-around, Digi's adapter can be configured to use polling mode, instead of interrupts. This is done by adding a registry entry of TimerPeriod with a value of the polling period in milliseconds. The recommended value is 50. To configure the Digi PCI adapter to use polling mode, run the regedit program to the Registry Editor. Step through the registry tree to highlight the branch for your adapter: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\DigiAsync\000X. Add a new entry, by selecting Edit on the menubar, then New > String Value. Give the new value a name of TimerPeriod with a string value of 50. Part 4: Uninstalling the Software --------------------------------- To remove the driver configuration: -- Using the System Device Manager wizard, remove the Digi adapter listed under Digi Intelligent Async adapters. This will remove your previous configuration from the Windows 95 registry. To completely remove the Digi driver files from your system: 1) In the \win9X\system directory, delete the following files: digifep5.vxd digixall.vxd digixem.vxd digienum.vxd 2) In the \win95\inf directory, delete digiport.inf, digimdm.inf and any oem*.inf file with DIGI in it. To completely remove the Digi Intelligent Async device class from your system: 1) In the \win95\system directory, delete the following files: diginstl.dll diginstl.hlp 2) Run the 'regedit' program to start the Registry Editor. Step through the registry tree to highlight the branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\DigiAsync. Delete this key by selecting 'Edit' on the menubar, then 'Delete' from the pulldown menu.Download Driver Pack
