This file includes the following topics: - Banyan Vines Installation Notes - SYSTEM.INI Information ============================================================ Banyan Vines Installation Notes ------------------------------- DOS must be installed on the target workstation C: drive, or you must have a bootable DOS floppy. NOTE: Although the driver name is FEM556N2.DOS, the internal driver name (used in PROTOCOL.INI) is FEM556$. 1. Use the DOS MD command to create a subdirectory called \VINES. 2. Copy the contents of the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) Install diskette into the \VINES subdirectory. 3. Copy the contents of the NDIS subdirectory on the VINES LAN S/W (DOS) 2 of 2 diskette into the \VINES subdirectory. 4. Copy the PROTOCOL.INI fragment from the \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\FEM556N2 subdirectory on Installation Disk 2 to the \VINES subdirectory. 5. Copy FMENABLE.EXE and FEM556N2.DOS from the \MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\FEM556N2 directory of the Installation Disk 2 to the \Vines subdirectory. 6. Edit the PROTOCOL.INI file to read as follows: [PROTOCOL MANAGER] DRIVERNAME = PROTMAN$ [VINES_XIF] DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$ BINDINGS = FEM556 [FEM556] DRIVERNAME = FEM556$ 7. Type C:\VINES\FMENABLE and press ENTER. This will report the IRQ which will be used in step 11. Write this down. Type "C:\VINES\FMENABLE /U" and press ENTER. This will unload FMENABLE from memory. 8. Run the PCCONFIG.EXE program located in the \VINES subdirectory. 9. Select option 1 "Network Card Settings". 10. Select the "NDIS Ethernet" option. 11. The NDIS workstation screen appears. Enter the IRQ that you selected for the Lan + MODEM adapter. Select the IRQ using the Configuration and Diagnostic Program. 12. Press F10 twice to return to the first menu. Select option 2, "Login Environment Settings". In the next screen select option 1, "Default Communications Driver". In the next screen scroll down to NDIS Ethernet and click "Enter". Exit PCCONFIG by pressing F10 at each stage to save the new configuration. 13. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following lines, substituting A: for C: for a floppy disk installation. DEVICE = C:\VINES\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\VINES DEVICE = C:\VINES\FMENABLE.EXE DEVICE = C:\VINES\FEM556N2.DOS 14. Add the following line to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. cd \VINES BAN cd \ BAN loads the NDISBAN drivers and reads the PCCONFIG.DB file to invoke changes made during the PCCONFIG stage. ========================================================= SYSTEM.INI information ======================= In order for the modem to function correctly in MS Windows, add the following commands to your Window's SYSTEM.INI file under the [386Enh] category: (Make sure they are not already there.) After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
