Computer Settings for Your XJ2560 or CC2560 Modem --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Performing the XJ/CC2560 V.90 Upgrade 1. Download the XJ-CC2560 V.90 upgrade. Save the file to drive C: 2. Insert a blank formatted floppy disk in drive A: This disk will be used by the install program for the upgrade. 3. Remove the modem from your computer. Insert it later only when prompted to do so. 4. Uninstall the old modem software, as follows: - Windows 95/98 1. Click Start > Run > Browse 2. Double-click My Computer 3. Double-click C: 4. Double-click Mhz 5. Click Uninstal > Open > OK 6. Follow the instructions as you are prompted - Windows 3.1 1. In Program Manager, click File > Run > C:\MHZ\UNINSTAL.EXE 2. Follow the instructions as you are prompted 5. Run the XJ-CC2560 V.90 upgrade: - Windows 95/98 1. Click Start > Run > C:\V2560 > OK 2. Click Extract 3. Click Start > Run > A:\SETUP > OK 4. Respond to prompts as they appear 5. When you are prompted to insert the modem, insert it firmly into any available PC Card slot in your computer 6. Respond to any additional prompts that appear 7. When the Setup program prompts you to restart your computer, remove the floppy disk from drive A: 8. Click Restart Now - Windows 3.1 1. In Program Manager, click File > Run > A:\V2560 2. Click Extract 3. In Program Manager, click File > Run > A:SETUP 4. Respond to prompts as they appear 5. When you are prompted to insert the modem, insert it firmly into any available PC Card slot in your computer 6. Respond to any additional prompts as they appear 7. When Setup program propmts you to restart your computer, remove the floppy disk from drive A: 8. Click Restart Now Once this process completes, your modem is installed. Check to be sure the upgrade was successful by doing the following: 1. Run a communications package and enter terminal mode 2. Issue an ATI7 command and check that the VxD rev is 2.0.002 3. If a different VxD rev is returned, the upgrade was unsuccessful and you will need to uninstall and reinstall the modem. To do this, follow the instructions above, beginning with step 3 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Installing Your Modem on an HP Omnibook 800CS, an NEC 6030, or an IBM 760 XL Computer Uninstall the old modem by following the instructions in section 1b) above. DO NOT RUN SETUP. Simply insert the modem into the PC Card slot and allow Windows to autodetect it. When you are prompted, select "Disk Provided by Manufacturer" and insert the Modem Installation Diskette. After the computer has rebooted and you hear the tones indicating the modem is inserted, run a:\setup from the Modem Installation to copy necessary files to your computer. --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Installing Your Modem in Windows 3.x Card and Socket Services must be loaded on your computer before you install the XJ2560 or CC2560 modem. If you have previously used a point enabler to install a modem in 3.x, you must comment out the point enabler lines in your CONFIG.SYS file. Follow the instructions in section 1 to uninstall and then install your modem. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. If You are Using a Texas Instruments Notebook with a Phoenix Card Manager At ship time, there were known issues with functionality in a Texas Instruments notebook using a Phoenix card manager such as TI Extensa and TI TravelMate. 3Com is working together with the laptop manufacturer to resolve these issues. Check http://www.mhz.com/client/mcd/support for 3Com Technical Bulletin #3193. You might also call the support phone number for your notebook or access http://www.acer.com. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5. If You are Using an IBM 760C or an IBM 365XD Computer If your computer disables the COM port when it goes into sleep or suspend mode, the modem will not respond when resume is used. The modem will respond if, with the computer running, you remove and reinsert the modem. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 6. If You Receive the Message "Com Port is Unavailable" During Setup If you are installing your modem on a laptop that uses a Databook controller and you insert the modem before you boot the computer, the message "Com Port is Unavailable" will appear. If this happens, remove the modem and reboot the computer. Once the laptop is running under Windows, insert the modem. Some laptops that have Databook controllers are: Ambra Subnote AMS Soundpro AMS Travelpro Austin 486 Canon Innovabook 10 Canon Innovabook 100 Epson Action Note 4000 Midwest Micro Elite Sharp 3010 Sharp 8650 Sharp 8700 Sharp 8900 Twinhead Subnote Unisys -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Using the Diagnostic Software DIAGNOSE.EXE allows you to easily collect information about your computer and any inserted PC Cards. The information is then used to verify that your system is running correctly, or to fix any problems. To run the Diagnostic Software you need to use your original Installation Disk. This disk is different from the upgrade disk that you created earlier. To use DIAGNOSE, follow these steps: 1. With Windows running, insert the Installation Disk into the drive on your computer 2. Select "Start" (Windows 95) or "File" (Windows 3.x) 3. Select "Run" 4. Type A:\DIAGNOSE and click OK Select the tests you want to perform from the menus at the top of the screen. --------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Disabling IBM Internal Modems If you are using an IBM Thinkpad 755CSE or other IBM computer that has an internal modem, you must disable it in order to use your PC Card. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Load Windows 2. Click Start 3. Click Programs 4. Open the IBM Thinkpad Setup Group 5. Open the DSP Icon 6. Remove the check from the Telephony Function 7. Save 8. Restart the computer --------------------------------------------------------------- 9. If You are Using an NEC Versa M/100 Computer No audible tones will be produced when you insert or remove your modem from an NEC Versa M/100. --------------------------------------------------------------- 10. If You are Using Quicken Version 6 The default maximum baud rate of a modem in Quicken 6 is 19,200bps. Follow the instructions in the Quicken 6 manual to increase this baud rate for your Megahertz modem. --------------------------------------------------------------- 11. If You are Using Microsoft Exchange If your system locks up whenever you attempt to use the following features of Windows Messaging (formerly Microsoft Exchange): - MS Fax - E-Mail - Dial-up Networking - Dial-up Internet Explorer download "Microsoft Exchange Update For Windows 95", file EXUPDUSA.EXE, from the Microsoft Web Site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/exupd.htm --------------------------------------------------------------- 12. If You are Connecting to a Comsphere 3820+ Modem When you're connecting to a Comsphere 3820+ modem at speeds of 4800bps or lower, you must disable the V.8 protocol in your modem. To do this, change S-Register 32 from the default 2 to 0. --------------------------------------------------------------- 13. Removing the Modem From Its Slot in Windows 3.x When running under Windows 3.x, removing the modem while it is connected will cause your computer to lock up. --------------------------------------------------------------- 14. Adjusting the Modem's Speaker Volume The speaker volume cannot be adjusted. ATL0, 1, 2, and 3 all produce the same sound level. --------------------------------------------------------------- 15. Uninstalling the Modem When you have run uninstal.exe, the US_Robo... icon will not disappear from the control panel until you refresh your screen by pressing F5. See section 1c) above for uninstall procedure. --------------------------------------------------------------- 16. Loopback Tests The following loopback AT commands are not supported: Local Analog Loopback (AT&T8), Remote Analog Loopback (AT&T1, Local Digital Loopback (AT&T6), and Remote Digital Loopback (AT&T3). The Remote Digital Loopback (AT&T7) doesn't work correctly on this modem. --------------------------------------------------------------- 17. If You Encounter Problems When Faxing If you run into problems while you are faxing, try changing the fax class you are using to 2.0 if you are using Class 1, and to Class 1 if you are using 2.0. If you are using RapidComm communications software, also change the initialization strings to extend the dial tone wait time. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Double click on Rapidcomm to bring up the program 2. Click Setup 3. Click Modem 4. Click on the end of the Initialization line, and add "S6=10&W" at the end of the line. 5. Click OK --------------------------------------------------------------- 18. Using Error Correction Mode when Faxing Error correction mode (ECM) is not supported by this modem. If your communications software supports ECM, set ECM to off. --------------------------------------------------------------- 19. Faxing High Resolution Pages When faxing high resolution pages, the text received will be distorted if both the sending and the receiving modem do not use High Resolution Mode. --------------------------------------------------------------- 20. Using Automatic Credit Card Dialing When you enter the dial string for a credit card call, place an ampersand (&) at the end of the credit card number, before the phone number. --------------------------------------------------------------- 21. If Your Modem Won't Answer a Data Call Most communications software packages allow you to select one of the following ways to answer a call: "detect fax & data", "data only", "fax only", and "ignore ring". If you're using RapidComm software and have "detect fax & data" selected, if your modem won't answer data calls, set the answer mode to "data only". --------------------------------------------------------------- 22. If You Get a General Protection Fault General protection faults (GPF) usually occur when insufficient memory is allocated by the computer to perform a task. If you get a general protection fault while using your modem, do one or more of the following: - Be sure your computer meets the minimum memory requirements for this modem. They are: At least a 486 laptop At least a 50 Mhz processor At least 8 megs of RAM At least 3 MB of free hard disk space - Be sure your COM port or IRQ setting doesn't conflict with any other devices on your computer - Remove and reinsert the modem in the slot to be sure it's seated correctly and securely - Uninstall and reinstall your modem - Free up memory by closing open applications until no more GPFs appear. --------------------------------------------------------------- 23. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
