If You See References to DOS or Windows 3.1x On the Help Screens During Setup Ignore them. Your Winmodem supports only Windows 98 and 95. --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. If You Have Problems Connecting Be sure the modem initialization string in your communications software contains AT&F for hardware flow control. --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. If You Want to Use Pulse Dialing Your Winmodem does not support pulse dialing. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Setting the Ring on Which You Want the Modem to Answer This modem uses the first ring signal to "wake up" from a low power mode. For this reason you must set ATS0= one number lower than the ring you want it to answer on; for example, set ATS0=1 to answer on the second ring, ATS0=2 on the third ring, and so on. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. If You Are Using a Fujitsu Lifebook Computer With Windows 98 The Winmodem's default COM port--COM 4--the port often assigned by Windows when the modem is inserted in this notebook, does not function properly. If you experience this problem, use the Control Panel>Modem>Properties>Port Settings button to change to COM 3 and reboot your computer. -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. If You Are Using a TI Notebook with a Phoenix Card Manager At this time there are known issues with functionality in a Texas Instruments notebook that uses a Phoenix Card Manager. Check the Acer web site at http://www.acer.com for solutions. --------------------------------------------------------------- 7. If You are Using AT&Nx or AT&Ux You cannot force V.90 connect rates with your Winmodem. AT&N32 through AT&N39, and AT&U32 through AT&U39 will not be recognized. --------------------------------------------------------------- 8. If You are Using an NEC Versa M/100 Computer No audible tones will be produced when you insert or remove your modem from an NEC Versa M/100. --------------------------------------------------------------- 9. If You are Using an IBM 760C or an IBM365XD Computer When the computer has reactivated after going into sleep or suspend modes, you must remove and reinsert the modem before using it. --------------------------------------------------------------- 10. If You are Using Quicken Version 6 The default maximum baud rate of a modem in Quicken 6 is 19,200bps. Follow the instructions in the Quicken 6 manual to increase this baud rate for your Winmodem. --------------------------------------------------------------- 11. If You are Connecting to a Comsphere 3820+ Modem When you're connecting to a Comsphere 3820+ modem at speeds of 4800bps or lower, you must disable the V.8 protocol in your modem. To do this, change S-Register 32 from the default 2 to 0. --------------------------------------------------------------- 12. If Your Modem Won't Answer a Data Call Most communications software packages allow you to select one of the following ways to answer a call: "detect fax & data", "data only", "fax only", and "ignore ring". If you're using RapidComm software and have "detect fax & data" selected, if your modem won't answer data calls, set the answer mode to "data only". --------------------------------------------------------------- 13. If You Get a General Protection Fault General protection faults (GPF) usually occur when insufficient memory is allocated by the computer to perform a task. If you get a general protection fault while using your modem, do one or more of the following: - Be sure you are using Windows 98 or Windows 95. - Be sure your computer meets the minimum memory requirements for the modem: At least a 486 laptop At least a 50 Mhz processor At least 8 MB RAM At least 10 MB of free hard disk space - Be sure your COM port or IRQ setting doesn't conflict with any other devices on your computer - Remove and reinsert the modem in the slot to be sure it's seated correctly and securely - Uninstall and reinstall your modem - Free up memory by closing open applications until no more GPFs appear. -------------------------------------------------------------- 14. Disabling IBM Internal Modems If you are using an IBM Thinkpad 755CSE or other IBM computer that has an internal modem, you must disable it in order to use your PC Card. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Load Windows 2. Open the IBM Thinkpad Setup Group 3. Open the DSP Icon 4. Remove the check from the Telephony Function 5. Save 6. Reboot the computer --------------------------------------------------------------- 15. Using ATYx Commands Because ATYx commands are not enabled for use with your Winmodem, the Set Next Reset feature is not available. --------------------------------------------------------------- 16. Using ATDT" Dial Strings We recommend you do not use letters with ATD dialing commands. --------------------------------------------------------------- 17. Faxing High Resolution Pages When faxing high resolution pages, the text received will be distorted if both the sending and the receiving modem do not use High Resolution Mode. --------------------------------------------------------------- 18.
