Driver Installation V. 1.27
Update of the Maestro 32/96 Manual
Since the introduction of the SoundSystem Maestro 32/96 several changes
have been made to the installation. We hope that this file will give you
some important informations.
I. The parameters of the TERRATEC.EXE
The TERRATEC.EXE can be run under DOS with the following parameters:
none : just starts the mixer
-I : loads the mixer settings (e. g. for DOS games)
-O...-I : configures the card with the values of the CS4232.INI [PnP] and
overrides the PnP-settings
-S : starts the configuration menu immediately (see section IV)
-E : does not set the BLASTER=AXXX IXX DX TX enviroment variable
-C... : sets the path for the Maestro system file CS4232.INI
e. g. TERRATEC.EXE -I -CC:\M32\
-V : displays the current Maestro 32/96 settings
II. Gameport MIDI Routing.
You are able to select the Gameport MIDI Routing in the TerraTec mixer
under DOS or Windows (3.1x or 95). The routing is important if you have
external MIDI equipment or a joystick connected.
If you use external MIDI equipment, you should set the routing to MIDI-2.
The selection of MIDI-1 instead lets the MIDI data address the internal
wavetable and external hardware simultaneously.
Please check before whether the 2nd MPU interface is activated. You will
find information about that in the next chapter.
If you use the Maestro for games without a special game card, you should
set the routing to OFF. Since many joysticks, especially the multifunction
ones often use some pins which are reserved for MIDI transfer, the MIDI
lines could be shortened. This will avoid the playback of wavetable sound.
III. The TerraTec Mixer.
1. Writing the Maestro 32/96 EEPROM under Windows 3.1x / Windows 95.
Though we recommend to write the Maestro 32/96 EEPROM under DOS
there is also a way now to write it under Windows 3.1x or Windows 95.
You will find a setup button in the TerraTec mixer which displays the
current settings and gives you the ability to change the settings directly.
After any change the system must be rebootet. Please close all running
applications before you make changes to the Maestro settings.
2. The VU-Meter in the TerraTec-Mixer.
If the VU-meter of the TerraTec mixer is on (under Windows), Windows can not
access the wave device in a DOS-box. The VU-meter continuously samples the input,
which has been selected with the Input Selection switch. So this avoids the output
of digital audio in a DOS-box. We recommend to switch on the VU-meter only for the
check of the input level and then turn it off again. Anyway the VU-meter will
also affects your system performance if it is on. This can cause problems with
sampling or harddiskrecording (or other time-consuming applications).
IV. The TERRATEC.EXE with parameter -s.
If the Maestro will not be found (neither under DOS nor under
Windows 3.1x/ Windows 95) run the TERRATEC.EXE under DOS with the
parameter -s. Even if the control register cannot be found new values can be set
manually. After you have done this the parameter -o will be added to the
INSTALL...TERRATEC...-line in your CONFIG.SYS. This will override the
PnP configuration and configures the card with the updated values of the CS4232.INI.
V. Problems with the synchronisation between audio and MIDI in Cubasis Audio (Lite).
If you have problems with the audio/midi synchronisation in
Cubasis Audio (Lite), you will find a synchronisation tester on this
installation disk. This file (STEST.EXE) is self extracting.
When you run the synchronisation tester new values will be found.
How to use this new values with Cubasis Audio (Lite) is written
in the README.TXT file which comes with STEST.EXE.
VI. Errors in the Maestro 32/96 manual.
1. The disk labels.
There is no disk labelled Software as described on page 46
(Windows 95). The installation of the soundcard's software will
start automatically after the driver installation.
2. Bug in the circuit diagram of the MIDI interface.
The printed circuit diagram of the MIDI interface is buggy.
There are two capacitors with a value of 220 nF.
The right value for these capacitors is 220 pF.
One resistor is labelled with a value of 5,6 k.
The right value for this resistor is 560 Ohm.
