1) DESCRIPTION
   ===========

   This release of the BayStack 650/ BayStack 660 in 802.11
   mode Adapter signifies a change in the wireless LAN industry,
   supporting the IEEE 802.11 standard. 802.11 compliance means that
   the BayStack adapter will interoperate with other 802.11 compliant
   systems, provided that the systems match. 802.11 specified both
   Frequency Hopping and Direct Sequence modulation techniques. These
   systems are not interoperable, even if supplied by the same vendor.

   This release includes new firmware and software not available in
   previous releases. Be sure to read Section 3) Requirements,
   if you are using older Bay Networks or Netwave Technologies products.

2) NEW FEATURES
   ============

   This release of the BayStack 650/ BayStack 660 drivers features:

   Release 3.40:

   - New, integrated installer, complete with an integrated uninstaller.
     These updated programs greatly simplify the installation process,
     and automatically install or remove both the driver and the
     Windows utilities.

           features, the Windows driver, Access Point firmware AND the
           adapter firmware in both the mobile unit and the Access
           Point MUST be updated to a version >= 3.40.
   - IP Subnet roaming enhancements that can (optionally) be used to
     direct the mobile unit to favor the current IP subnet or a specific
     subnet. (requires ASPROAM.EXE utility and Access Point firmware >= v3.40).
   - New configuration panels with a more logical arrangement of parameters.
     Added a control for the Fragmentation Threshold parameter.
   - Support for Windows 98.
   - The driver now always operates in I/O-only mode, improving reliability
     and performance.
   - Enhanced Link Quality and Connection Quality measurements and
     computations, yielding more meaningful displays in the Site Survey app.

   Release 3.22:

   - Enhanced roaming, load balancing and load limiting (when used
     with AP firmware >= 3.20.5).

   - Solid ON green LED when connected to an Access Point and a blinking
     green LED when connected to another mobile unit in ad hoc mode.

3) REQUIREMENTS
   ============

   The only PC Card Adapters that are upgradeable to the 802.11
   firmware are those that are labeled "AirSurfer Plus" or "BayStack
   650". The firmware in all such PC Card adapters must be upgraded to
   at least version 3.00. The latest versions of firmware can be
   obtained by contacting Technical Support or via the Nortel Networks'
   website (see below).

     Note: In order to support the 802.11 WEP and Power Saving
           features, the Windows driver, Access Point firmware AND the
           adapter firmware in both the mobile unit and the Access
           Point MUST be updated to a version >= 3.40.

4) INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
   =========================

   - For Windows 95/98 driver installation:
       1. Disable any virus detection software that may be running on
          your computer.
       2. Insert the BayStack 650/ 660 Software CD into the CD-ROM
          drive. This will automatically launch the Win95/98 driver
          and windows utilities installer (SETUP.EXE).
       3. Proceed through the installation process until you are
          prompted to restart the computer.
       4. Select "Yes", and click "Finish" to restart the computer.
       5. After the computer has rebooted, insert the BayStack Wireless
          LAN PC Card adapter into the PCMCIA slot.
       6. Proceed through the initial adapter configuration process by
          setting the network properties for SSID and Network Type (at
          a minimum).

   - For Windows NT 4.0 driver installation:
       1. Disable any virus detection software that may be running on
          your computer.
       2. Insert the BayStack 650/ 660 Software CD into the CD-ROM
          drive. This will automatically launch the Win95/98 driver
          and windows utilities installer (SETUP.EXE).
       3. Click the "Cancel" button to exit the installer.
       4. Go into the Network Control Panel and select the Adapters tab.
       5. Click the "Add Adapter" button.
       6. Click the "Have Disk..." button.
       7. Select the root directory of the CD-ROM drive in the
          directory selection window. This is where the driver files
          are located.  Click "OK".
       8. A list of BayStack adapter types is displayed. Choose the
          adapter that you are using from the list. Click "OK".
       9. You will then be prompted to set the value for several
          Network Configuration parameters. Set the values as desired,
          click the "OK" button. Then, click the "Close" button.
       10.Next you will be prompted to set the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties.
          Set those properties as directed by your network administrator,
          then click "OK".
       11.Select "Yes", to restart the computer.
       12.To install the windows utilities, run the SETUP.EXE program
          from the BayStack 650/ BayStack 660 CD.
       13.The adapter list will be dislayed again. Since the driver is
          already installed for your adapter, click the "Next" button to
          proceed with the utilities installation.

   - When installing the Windows driver, one of the most important
     things in setting the resources is that the BayStack 650, BayStack
     660, AirSurfer Plus and AirSurfer Pro adapters need 40 hex (64
     decimal) bytes of I/O space. i.e. 200-23F or 240-27F. Make sure
     that there is no other device using I/O space in the 40 hex block
     that has been assigned to the PC Card.

   - The adapter also requires a 4 Kbytes memory window for I/O mode
     within segment C000h to EF00h, the default is D000h. (This memory
     window is used for attribute memory access during card
     initialization)

5) SPECIAL SOFTWARE NOTES
   ======================

     Windows 95/98 Driver
     ====================
     Interrupt request 9 is not a supported interrupt with the BayStack
     NDIS 3.0 Windows 95 driver. This can be checked in the Control
     Panel, System Properties, Device Manager.

     Windows NT 4.0 Driver Configuration
     ===================================
     On some computers, Interrupt 10 does not work. In these cases,
     the PC Card will appear to be properly initialized but it will
     never associate with an Access Point. First check to be sure that
     all the network settings (network mode, SSID and WEP) are set
     correctly. If these values are all set correctly, and the amber
     and green LEDs on the PC Card are both flashing, then change the
     PC Card interrupt resource.
