======================================================== Courier I-modem - Version 2.1.10 README FILE Copyright 1997 3Com/U.S. Robotics ======================================================== ======================================================== 1. Additional Features and Improvements ======================================================== - x2 technology in server and symmetric modes - Turbo-PPP including Host Mode for up to 128kbps data transfer over ISDN - Extended V.110 connectivity up to 38,400bps - XMODEM software downloads - Extended Party Number Identification (Caller ID) - Improved Configuration Manager - Extended Configuration Manager DN Setup - Improved Configuration Manager online help - 32-bit CAPI 2.0 DLL - Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation See the Courier I-modem documentation for more information about these features and how to implement them. ======================================================== 2. Upgrading with PCSDL ======================================================== 3Com recommends that you use PCSDL to upgrade your I-modem. i) Reboot your PC to DOS mode before using PCSDL. ii) Before proceeding, note current DIP switch settings Set DIP switch 1 to the OFF position to restore FACTORY defaults, if necessary. iii) Toggle the power on the I-modem to load these settings - Using PCSDL iv) Go to the DOS prompt. v) Change to the directory that you placed the PCSDL file. vi) Run PCSDL by typing PCSDL <Enter> in conjunction with the following switches. For the external Courier I-modem: PCSDL -p1 -r115200 -vNA2.1.10 -vSD2.1.10 -nSDie -nNAie For the internal Courier I-modem: PCSDL -p1 -r115200 -vNA2.1.10 -vSD2.1.10 -nSDim -nNAim -b PCSDL.EXE checks its code. If an error message appears, the operation is terminated; download the file again. ------------------------- REQUIRED SWITCHES: ------------------------- -p COM Port: 1, 2, 3 or 4 -r Baud Rate: 2400, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600 or 115200 -v <NA/NI>n.n.n NAC/NIC Operation Code Version: n=0-99 -n SD?? Filename Prefix: ?=ASCII -n <NA/NI>?? Operation Code Filename Prefix: ?=ASCII -v SDn.n.n Software Download Version: n=0-99 ------------------------- OPTIONAL SWITCHES: ------------------------- -I IRQ 3(default COM2/4), 4(default COM1/3), 5, or 7 -d Directory Path Name: default = current directory -b Disable UART's FIFOs (necessary for downloading to internal models) vi) A prompt asks if you want to "Download Using These Settings? (Y/N)." Enter "Y" to continue or "N" to abort. Once you have accepted the settings, the software download begins. If the MS-DOS prompt displays "Modem reports download successful" and the MR (Modem Ready) LED lights up, you have successfully upgraded your Courier I-modem with the new firmware. vii) Switch the Courier I-modem OFF viii) Set the DIP switches to their previous settings, if necessary. ix) Switch the Courier I-modem ON x) Send the following commands to Courier I-modem: AT&F&C1&D2E1V1Q0<CR> ATS0=1S14=1S67=14S68=0S69=0S79=4*V2=0<CR> AT*W=4<CR> (for 1TR6 switches use *W=5, for VNx switches use *W=6) AT*P1=<CR> AT*P2=<CR> AT*P=0<CR> AT*P=1<CR> AT*C4<CR> AT*R4<CR> AT&W<CR> ATZ!<CR> **NOTE: If the local ECHO command is disabled, you will not be able to see what you are typing. Use ATE1 to enable local echo. ======================================================== 3. Important points to remember ======================================================== - Since MLPPP does not support encrypted passwords, you will need to use clear-text passwords. - Disable FIFOs for internal I-modems over Windows NT. - I-modem does not support pulse dialling over the ADP. S80.1=1 allows the I-modem to send it's CALLING PARTY NUMBER to the remote user. **NOTE: This will prevent some UK switches from sending the I-modem a dial tone. This is noticeable on the ADP and can be disabled with S80.1=0 - CR115UK.INF supports DTE rates up to 115.2 kbps. This file will work with high speed serial cards, at speeds up to 115.2 kbps. ======================================================== 4. Known problems ======================================================== **NOTE: Check 3Com/ U.S. Robotics brand web site for updated code, on http:\\www.usr.co.uk - The I-modem may reset if a ADP call is made while a data call is in progress. - The internal I-modem may not support parity properly.Download Driver Pack
