fx000205 (2.05) for WinNT 4.0
* This driver is WHQL certified: "Designed for Microsoft Windows
NT".
* This is the supported version for the Visualize Personal
Workstation X733. Do not use previous versions of the driver with
the X733. Previous versions of the driver may hang the X733.
Previous versions are okay with X550 and below.
* Vertex Array extension for 3D Studio Max
* Autodesk Inventor application setting
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000204 (2.04) for WinNT 4.0
* This driver is not WHQL certified.
* Additional performance with the "Optimize DL Execution."
* Performance improvement for several applications, including PTC
Pro/E
* Fix for PTC CDRS 2000i application
* Removed performance improvement for Pro/E V20 with textures (see
fx000202 ) because of interaction with another texture application
* Fix for crash ("blue screen") when display properties "settings"
are tested without being applied - a problem at 1280x1024
resolution and below with version fx000202, and at 1024x768 and
below for versions fx00016 and below.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000202 (2.02) for WinNT 4.0
* This driver is not WHQL certified.
* New setting in the "Options" tab of "Display Properties" for
"Optimize DL Execution." Turning this on, the driver will spend
more time building the display list, but less time rendering. It
is recommended for display-list OpenGL applications that build the
display list once and render it many times. It is not recommended
for Unigraphics or SDRC, where we have found display list build
time to be very important.
* New setting in the "Options" tab of "Display Properties" for
"RasterPos Performance." It is not recommended for most
applications, since it trades off against immediate mode rendering
performance. The new setting was put in for an application that
draws a grid using many RasterPos OpenGL commands, so that for
that application overall performance is improved with the setting.
* Added settings for SolidDesigner for 1600x1200 mode.
* Performance improvement for Pro/E V20 with textures
* Enhancement to allow multiple stereo windows, as used by an ERDAS
application
* Defect fixes for Alias/Wavefront Maya Version 2.0
* Performance improvement when an OpenGL window is obscured by 3 or
more windows.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000116 (1.16) for WinNT 4.0
* Microsoft WHQL certified for VISUALIZE-fx2+, fx4+, and fx6+, with
or without the optional texture hardware.
* Performance improvement by allowing more bilinear textures to fit
in texture memory. This improves 3d Studio Max texture
performance.
* New option for 3d Studio Max handling of back buffers for improved
performance.
* New option for 3d Studio Max handling of back buffers for improved
performance.
* Fix for glReadPixels with an obscured window. 4. Fix for stress
test hang on 512MB systems.
* Add EAI to application list.
* Added 1600x1024 resolution for Sony 24" Monitor
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000114 (1.14) for WinNT 4.0
* Microsoft WHQL certified for VISUALIZE-fx2+, fx4+, and fx6+, with
or without the optional texture hardware.
* A fix for SoftImage where the application terminated when
performing a particular operation.
* A fix for a Deneb problem with large coordinates and textures
applied to large coordinates. Use the Deneb setting to invoke.
This driver will be Deneb certified.
* Fix to .inf file so that non-English systems will see the re-boot
message if the memory configuration does not match the driver
configuration for full 3d performance
* Fix for multi-threaded OpenGL games that were seeing an
"application error" prompt on dual processor systems. This
problem was not seen on applications.
* Exported the interface to the gl_EXT_polygon_offset extension.
This is an OpenGL 1.0 extension which should be replaced by an
OpenGL 1.1 standard interface, however, not all applications have
converted yet.
* Improvements in texture border memory utilization that will
improve 3d Studio Max performance when working with many textures.
Changed SoftImage to default to "fast buffer swaps" off, instead
of on.
* A fix for SoftImage where the application terminated when
performing a particular operation.
* A fix for a Deneb problem with large coordinates and textures
applied to large coordinates. Use the Deneb setting to invoke.
This driver will be Deneb certified.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000112 (1.12) for WinNT 4.0
* This driver is not WHQL certified.
* This driver is to be used with SoftImage, Pro/3dPaint or
Alias/wavefront Maya. The default driver is fx000110b for other
applications.
* Hardware accumulation buffer (set through option in display
properties). This speeds up advanced features such as
anti-aliasing and motion blur. It requires the texture hardware
option because it uses some of the texture memory for the buffer.
It is disabled at 1600x1200 resolution.
* Change name of VISUALIZE-fx6 to fx6+ to reflect new hardware
accumulation feature (requires memory on the texture hardware
option).
* Include fix for PTC Pro/3dPaint
* Fix for memory leak with OpenGL copy pixel - seen through
SoftImage
* This driver is recommended for Alias/Wavefront Maya. It features a
new option in gamma correction of setting the gamma for both
OpenGL windows and WindowsNT windows (i.e., GDI ). This was added
for Alias|Wavefront Maya.
* Improved double buffering support in 1600x1200 mode for SoftImage
and 3d Studio Max.
* Improvements to display list rendering performance when using flat
shading.
* Changes to the .inf file: Default changed to "no tearing" off for
faster performance. CoCreate replaces Co-Create (but if installed
over a previous driver, you must manually delete the old entry
by pressing the "Delete" button), and Multi-buffer GDI is turned
off. Change Pro/E to "Fast Buffer Swaps". Added "Other PTC
Apps"
* With the HP occlusion extension, the occlusion test is "tighter".
Previously, some objects that were occluded were reported as
"not occluded" and therefore needing rendering.
* Added "MRU Textures" - i.e., Most Recently Used. This changes the
texture cache algorithm to retain the most recently used texture.
It helps in some workloads that use texture data in a particular
way, in applications such 3d Studio Max benchmark. The best advice
is to try it to see if it helps the performance - if not, turn it
off. We expect most typical application usage to be worse with
MRU textures.
* Although unusual configurations the 448MB and 704MB configurations
are now up to full 3d performance. The only memory configuration
that has less than full 3d performance is 1.75GB, and that is not
allowed with supported DIMM modules.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000110b (1.10b) for WinNT 4.0
* Microsoft WHQL certified for VISUALIZE-fx2+, fx4+, and fx6+, with
or without the optional texture hardware.
* Full 3d performance for the following configurations: 640MB,
768MB, 896MB, 1GB, 1.5GB, 2.0GB
* The previous version, 1.10A, required a PoolSize registry variable
to be set to achieve full 3d performance for the above
configurations.
* File names have been changed to remove fx6 from the name. For
example, hpfx6nt.dll is now hpvfxxnt.dll. This was required for
Microsoft WHQL certification of the VISUALIZE-fx4+.
* The uninstall has been changed to remove the new file names.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000110a (1.10a) for WinNT 4.0
* A "blue screen" problem during boot with particular memory
configurations was found with the VISUALIZE-fx6 and VISUALIZE-fx4+
(but not VISUALIZE-fx4) is verified as a driver defect in driver
versions 1.10 and below (including 1.08). The affected products
are Kayak XW 450MHz Xeon with VISUALIZE graphics.
The fix for this problem is incorporated in versions 1.10A, and
all higher numbered versions. This is the only change between 1.10
and 1.10A for the VISUALIZE-fx4+ and VISUALIZE-fx6 graphics.
The known affected memory configurations are:
896MB = (3x 256MB) + (1x 128MB)
1.5GB = (3x 512MB)
2.0GB = (4x 512MB)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000110 (1.10) for WinNT 4.0
* This driver is common to the Fx4+ and the fx6+ video graphics card
* Includes registry variable for improving graphics performance on
512MB systems
* Vertex array performance improvements
* New HP draw Element Array extension
* fix for switching between true-color and 256 color while OpenGL
applications are running
------------------------------------------------------------------------
fx000108 (1.08) for WinNT 4.0
* First released version
* Microsoft WHQL certified for VISUALIZE-fx6+, with or without the
optional texture hardware.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
End of HP Visualize OpenGL Driver Evolution

WHY DOES HEWLETT-PACKARD ROLL THIS DRIVER ?
Minimizing the number of the revisions of the drivers is an objective
of Hewlett-Packard. However Hewlett-Packard may have to release new
revisions for any one of the following reasons:
* ENHANCEMENTS - This is the case when a major new feature is
available on the market. Good examples are Microsoft Windows 95, a
new level of the Plug and Play standard, a new level of the PCI
standard.
* PROCUREMENT ASSURANCE - Hewlett-Packard qualifies an additional
supplier for a component in order to secure the procurement.
* COMPONENT ROLL - A semiconductor supplier introduces a new version
of a component, and stops the production of the previous version
for technological improvement reasons.
* QUALITY - To improve the quality, Hewlett-Packard has to make use
of a more reliable component, or to implement a design change.
* COST - Hewlett-Packard uses a different supplier which can supply
the equivalent component at a much lower price.
* BUG FIX - Bugs discovered in the previous version are fixed.
