GPIB-32 Library - Version 3.6 ----------------------------- This package constitutes the 32-bit GPIB support for Microsoft Windows NT and Win-95/98,Win-2000 and WindowsXP. To Install, run SETUP.EXE on this disk. The enclosed files include: 1. A C-callable DLL for the standard GPIB functions (and companion "LIB" file for linking with your program). 2. 32-bit versions of the three GPIB utilities: > CBCONF32 - GPIB configuration definition > CBIC32 - Manual bus/instrument commanding > CBTEST32 - A simple installation test These utilities operate (with minor exception) identically to the existing DOS/Windows versions. 3. A "C" sample Windows program that uses the enclosed DLL, including source (CDEMO32.C). 4. A Visual Basic sample program (form) and Visual Basic include file(GPIB-32.BAS) for the GPIB-32 library. 5. A Borland Delphi-3 example program consisting of: a) The library interface include file, GPIB.PAS b) The project file, GPIBDEMO.DPR c) The demo source code, SAMPLE.PAS d) The demo form, SAMPLE.DFM 6. The "c" header file for the GPIB-32 library, Windecl.h 7. For Win-NT/2000/XP: The "Ntgpibdd" device driver which must be used in conjunction with the enclosed GPIB DLL. 8. For Win-95: The "GPIBVXD.VXD" device driver. 9. For Win-2000/XP: The "Gpibwdm" device driver which is used in conjunction with the enclosed GPIB DLL. The install (setup) program deposits these files in the directory you specify. If you are installing on a NT system then it also installs the Ntgpibdd device driver. For Win-95/98 it installs the GPIBVXD.VXD device driver. You also need to ensure that environment variable "GPIBDIR" is set to point to your GPIB.CFG file (default location is set by install program). Note: The DLL and LIB files may be more conveniently placed in your system directory. Following install you must run CBCONF32 to set your board type and any other non-standard operating parameters. Note: For usage with various 3rd-party packages, please refer to other readme files so named. Note that on Windows NT the install program must be run by your system administrator. You must re-start your machine in order for the installation/ configuration changes to take effect. Note that we have given the three GPIB utilities CBIC/CBCONF/CBTEST names with "32" suffixes. These utilities are essentially identical to the original (16-bit world) animals and conform to the existing documentation. However, one small difference is that the 32-bit versions of the utilities utilize the DLL - as opposed to the 16-bit programs which are stand-alone. PCMCIA Support under WindowsNT: Win-NT does not support "Plug-N-Play" in the sense of Win-95. For PCMCIA interfaces, you must follow this install sequence: a. Install the GPIB software. b. Set the PCMCIA.SYS driver for "Auto" start-up. c. Shut down your system. d. Insert the PCMCIA card. e. Re-boot your system. You should now see your GPIB card listed under "PCMCIA" in the Control Panel. It should also have I/O port and interrupt level resources assigned. If you have CardWizard (from SystemSoft Corp.) installed then you can insert/remove the PCM-GPIB card at any time following system boot-up, as long as no GPIB-related programs are running. It is recommended that, if possible, you leave the short umbilical cable attached when removing the PCMCIA card as it will reduce wear and tear on the connector. Also, please review file NTPCMCIA.TXT. PCMCIA Support under Windows-2000/XP: This version of the GPIB-32 library includes Support for PCM_GPIB under Windows-2000 and Windows XP. However, on some PC-CARD controllers, the PCM-GPIB card's CIS has to be updated. If you run CBCONF32.exe and you get a pop up dialog titled (PCM-GPIB Windows 2000 support Failure), you must do the following to enable Windows 2000/ Windows XP support: a. Install the GPIB software on Win95/Win98 machine b. Insert the PCM-GPIB card c. Run CBCONF32.exe and install the PCM-GPIB card d. On the target Windows 2000/Windows XP machine, run CBCONF32.exe and reinstall the card e. If the (PCM-GPIB Windows 2000 support Failure) dialog still pops up after saving the configuration, contact technical support National Instruments Labview uses the Measurement and Automation Explorer utility to manage the installed GPIB interfaces and instruments in the system. In order to configure your MCC hardware for use with Labview, you need to create an interface of the type "AT-GPIB/TNT" using the National Instruments Measurement and Automation Explorer utility. However, National Instruments has removed support for this interface type with the 2.30 version of their GPIB 488.2 library. In order to configure your hardware with the Measurement and Automation Explorer utlity, you must have version 1.70 of National Instruments GPIB 488.2 library. The following link to the National Instruments web site contains detailed information regarding the version of the 488.2 library required for each GPIB board type and operating system: http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htmDownload Driver Pack
