INSTALLING THE USB DRIVER
Before connecting your PC to the DOCSIS-HMS Transponder (DHT) USB port,
make sure the DHT is powered up and fully booted. If it is the first time
you are connecting to the DHT's USB port, your PC's operating system should
detect the USB device and a hardware wizard usually prompts you to install the
driver, available from Electroline's Web site (www.electroline.com). Contact
Electroline's Technical Support department for access to the correct Web page.
Copy the USB driver files to a directory or onto a diskette. Extract (unzip) the
files to a directory if you are using a compressed file. Then, install the driver
on your PC as follows:
1. Connect the DHT to PC using a USB cable (typeA-typeB). Your PC will
detect new hardware. Click Next.
2. Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
and click Next.
3. Check the "Specify location" box, and then click "Next" to locate the
driver files.
4. Select "Browse" and select the drive or the directory where you copied
the USB driver files. The netusbcm.inf file should be selected. Click Open
to return to the wizard, then click Next to continue installing the driver.
Note: When prompted, select "Yes" to install Electroline's USB driver,
without Microsoft's digital signature.
5. Once the driver is installed, go to the Windows Control Panel,
and select "Network Settings".
6. In the Configuration tab, select "TCP/IP settings" for the DHT.
7. Select the "IP Address" tab and click on "Specify an IP address".
Enter following addresses to set the address your PC uses when
communicating with the DHT:
IP Address : 192.168.100.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Note:
You can choose any IP address in the range 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.100.254.
Do not use 192.168.100.0, 192.168.100.1 (the DHT's address) or 192.168.100.255.
To test the USB link between the DHT and your computer, open an MS DOS
command window. At any prompt such as C:\>, type:
ping 192.168.100.1 and then press Enter.
If the transponder replies, then the link between the PC and the DHT
is operational.
