ReadMe.txt Driver File Contents (RB2Project.zip)

		Brief Summary of RB2Project

				12/12/04

WHAT DOES IT DO?

RB2Project converts an unencrypted RocketBook title (e.g.,
PublicDomain.rb) into a format that should be usable and reasonably
readable on eBook Technologies eBooks (e.g., ETI-1, ETI-2, eBookwise-1150).
It generates a directory that contains converted OEBPS
(Open eBook Publication Structure) and image files, and a "project"
file that can be opened by the Book Publisher, a tool that
can produce .imp files loadable by the eBook devices.

THEORY OF OPERATIONS

RB2Project is essentially a PERL script, coupled with an enhanced
tidy.exe (HTML processor) and unrb.exe (unpacks RocketBook archive
files).

You point RB2Project at a rocketbook title, and it generates a directory
containing the converted project.

For example, running the following from the DOS command line...

   rb2project alice.rb

...generates a directory named "alice", in which you will find files:

   RBProject.spf - the project file you should open using
   	eBook Publisher

   *.oeb - the converted HTML files extracted from alice.rb

   *.png - the image files extracted from alice.rb

...and you may also find some ancillary files that were contained in
the rocketbook title, but serve no purpose in the Publisher project.

How does it work? The script:

	1. creates a directory, based on the filename of the .rb
	    file;

	2.  unpacks the file's components (using unrb.exe);

	3. looks for the embedded "info" file, which provides the
	    title, author, and a pointer to the topmost HTML file.
	    From this file, the script builds an eBook Publisher
	    project;

	4.  runs tidy.exe on each HTML file;

INSTALLATION

RB2Project cannot run unless eBook Publisher version 2.1 or
later has already been installed.

Unpack the contents of this zip file into a directory, e.g., c:\RB2Project.

While RB2Project is a Perl script, we have employed a tool (perlapp)
that converts the script (RB2Project.pl) into a windows executable
(RB2Project.exe).

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

To run the tool:

From DOS, include the RB2Project directory in the PATH, and run

	RB2Project YourTitle.rb

From Windows, create a shortcut to RB2Project.exe on the desktop. You can
then drag-and-drop YourTitle.rb onto the shortcut to convert it.

After RB2Project has created a project file (e.g.,
YourTitle\RBProject.spf) you can open it with eBook Publisher.
Set the desired "build target" device ("Color VGA" for an ETI-1,
"Grayscale Half-VGA" for an ETI-2 or eBookwise-1150) and then click the
"Build Edition..." button or Project menu item.

Alternatively, if you run...

	RB2Project -ETI2 YourTitle.rb

...if successful, you will find YourTitle\YourTitle.imp is a .imp file
for an ETI-2 eBook reader. Likewise for "-ETI1" or "-1150" which is
an alias for "-ETI2".)

(Or if you are into Open eBook standards, you can generate an Open
eBook File Format package using switch "-oeb". The resulting .oeb
file will not be directly displayable on an eBook device.)

NOTE: If you build the .imp file for one kind of device, it will not
look right when displayed on another kind. If that happens, simply
delete the book from your bookshelf, and try again.

	Device		Format switch
	--------	-------------
	ETI-1		-ETI1
	eBookwise-1150	-1150 or -ETI2
	ETI-2		-1150 or -ETI2

RB2Project also understands switches "-small", "-large", and "-both",
which causes it to set the project file so that only small fonts, only
large fonts, or the default of both sizes, will be incorporated into
the .imp file.

The resulting .imp file must then be transferred to your eBook device.
If you have the latest firmware (3.3), simply copy the file to the top
(root) directory of your eBook's flash media device. (You will need an
external media reader to do this.)
