Do not use this driver if you have printer firmware version 3.02. To find out what version of firmware you have: 1. Press the Printer Online button to set the printer to the Offline state (the green light should go off). 2. Flip open the access door and press the Self Test button. 3. It takes a while for the machine to perform the Self Test. Two Self Test pages will print out. The version number is shown under PRINTER BOARD on the first page. It is also shown under Firmware Version on the second page. 4. Press the Printer Online button again to set the printer in the Online state (the green light should come on). If you have 3.02 printer firmware and would like to have the upgrade, please contact your local Xerox representative. Printing in 600 dpi: -------------------- Printing complex documents at 600 dpi can require six megabytes of printer memory or more. Unless you add extra memory, it is recommended that you print documents at 300 dpi. Installation: ------------- 1. Start Windows and click on the Start icon. 2. Select Settings. 3. Click on Printers. 4. Double click on Add Printer. 5. Click on Next for the Add Printer Wizard. 6. Click on Have Disk. 7. Insert the Document WorkCenter Pro 610 printer driver diskette in the A drive and select OK. If B drive is used, type B:\ then select OK. 8. The Add Printer dialog box displays Document WorkCenter Pro 610. Click on Next. 9. If there was a previous copy of the Pro 610 driver already loaded, a dialog box will appear. Select Replace Existing Driver, then click on Next. 10. Select the appropriate port. This will usually be LPT1 for a local printer. 11. Click on Next. 12. Select whether you want your Windows-based programs to use the Pro 610 as the Default Printer. 13. Click on Next. 14. Select whether you wish a Test Page. 15. Click on Finish. 16. The Document WorkCenter Pro 610 icon now appears in the Printers window. Click on the icon with the right mouse button and select Properties. 17. Click on Details. 18. Under "Print to the following port:", it should say "LPT1: (Printer Port)". If it does say Printer Port, you can go ahead and use the printer for printing now. If it says "LPT1: (ECP Printer Port)", please follow the instructions below to change your parallel port setting. The Document WorkCenter Pro 610 is not ECP compatible. Note: if printer installation is unsuccessful, check your cable connection and reboot your PC. To turn off the ECP (Extended Capabilities Port) setting: --------------------------------------------------------- 1. Click on the Start icon. 2. Select Settings. 3. Click on Control Panel. 4. Double click on System. 5. Select Device Manager. 6. Double click on Ports(COM & LPT). 7. Double click on ECP Printer Port. 8. Select Driver. 9. Click on Change Driver. 10. Click on Show all Devices. 11. Under Models, select Printer Port. 12. Click on OK. 13. Make sure Printer Port appears under Driver. Click on OK to continue. 14. Click Close to close the System Properties window. 15. Close the Control Panel window. 16. Reboot your system for the change to take effect. Note: If you experience loss of data on your printed documents even after turning ECP off, try to obtain special driver from Microsoft Corporation. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: ARTICLE-ID: Q141919 TITLE : Printing Problems with ECP Port Cable Problem: -------------- If you are experiencing redundant data on your printed documents (e.g. TThiss iss aan eexxammpple), this can be caused by an unshielded printer cable. Please replace your cable with a good quality, shielded cable. To un-install: -------------- 1. Start Windows and click on the Start icon. 2. Select Settings. 3. Click on Printers. 4. Highlight the Document WorkCenter Pro 610 icon. 5. Press the Delete key. 6. It will ask you "Are you sure you want to delete the printer Document WorkCenter Pro 610?". Click on Yes. 7. It will ask you "Some files were used only for this printer, and are no longer needed. Would you like to delete these files now?". Click on Yes. 8. If the Document WorkCenter Pro 610 was your default printer, a message will appear telling you that the default printer has been deleted. Click on OK to continue. The following are known problems with the printer driver and work-arounds: Problem: Complex documents do not print correctly in Word97 ----------------------------------------------------------- When the document gets too complex, it will start losing characters and generating extra underlines. The work-around is to set the graphics mode to HPGL/2. Problem: Cannot print collated copies in Word97 ----------------------------------------------- The "collate" feature does not work in Word97. The work-around is to print the document multiple times to obtain collated copies. Problem: Dotted lines in Harvard Graphics 4.0 do not print correctly ---------------------------------------------------------- Dotted lines do not print as they appear on the screen. The work-around is to set the graphics mode to HPGL/2. Problem: Adding multiple softfonts sometimes causes a General Protection Fault (GPF) ------------------------------------------------------------- Adding multiple fonts from the Font dialog box may result in GPF. The work-around is to add one font at a time. Problem: ? Feature does not give detailed information ----------------------------------------------------- The ? feature only provides general Help information. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
