Cancel any error messages that display on your screen. To restart the installation, click the Start button, click Run, then type x:install (where x is the drive letter for your CD-ROM). Installing WorkCentre 450c software from floppy disks: After inserting the first Adobe Acrobat disk, the Setup program prompts you to install the Guided Tour. When the installation process is complete, a message displays on your screen. Click the Finish button. The Adobe Acrobat Setup program runs. Re-insert the first Acrobat disk and continue with the Acrobat installation. When you are asked if you would like to register Adobe Acrobat 2.1, you must click Yes. Windows 3.1/3.11 Users After installing the WorkCentre 450c software, you may notice the following: -- Your computer is not tracking the mouse or is not responding to mouse clicks. -- Your computer is not detecting or is missing input from the keyboard. -- Documents either do not print or do not begin printing quickly after selecting the Print command. To eliminate these problems, you should optimize Windows. Open the Control Panel and double-click the Enhanced icon. In the Enhanced window, increase the values for Windows in Foreground and Windows in Background. Click Help in the Enhanced window for more information. If you have a WorkCentre 250 installed If both the WorkCentre 250 and WorkCentre 450c are installed on your PC with Windows 3.x and configured to the same parallel port, but the 250 is not physically connected to your PC, there may be problems printing to the WorkCentre 450c. You can uninstall the WorkCentre 250. Alternately, you can follow these steps to connect your WorkCentre 450c to a different LPT port than your WorkCentre 250: 1) Close all applications that you wish to print using the WorkCentre 450c. 2) Double click on the "Main" icon on your desktop. (If the icon is not on your desktop, double click on the Program Manager icon and double click on the Main icon.) 3) Double click on the "Control Panel" icon. 4) Double click on the "Printers" icon. 5) Select "Xerox WorkCentre 400c Series" in the Installed Printers list. 6) Click on the "Connect" button. 7) In the Ports list, select a different LPT port than the WorkCentre 250 is connected to (Usually you can select LPT2 or LPT3, even if you don’t have a physical LPT2 or LPT3 on your PC). 8) Click the "OK" button. 9) Click the "Close" button on the Printers dialog. You do not need to restart Windows. Your WorkCentre 450c should now print correctly. General Make sure at least 10 pages of paper are loaded in the paper tray before installing software. If you run out of paper during software installation, add paper, close the error windows, and continue the installation. If the Setup Wizard window initially appears behind another window, click any visible part of the Setup Wizard window to bring it to the front. The Scan Test checks the communication between your computer and the WorkCentre 450c. If the Scan Test displays an error related to the scanned image, the error may be caused by the TWAIN defaults used from another scanning program. Ignore the error messages (if the error is related to the image) and continue the installation. This error does not cause any scanning problems. If the message "This version of msvcrt20.dll not compatible with Win32s" appears during installation, you may have an incompatible version of this file. You should replace this file with the correct version. On the WorkCentre 450c CD-ROM, the correct version of msvcrt20.dll is located in the new_dlls\mvcrt.32s folder. Copy this file to your Windows\System folder on your PC. If, after installing the WorkCentre 450c software, you encounter problems with applications that require a data modem connection you may need to change the default modem used by that application. If, after installing the WorkCentre 450c software, you experience sound problems when playing sound and video files, call the Xerox Customer Support Center. Uninstalling WorkCentre 450c Software If, after uninstalling the WorkCentre 450c software, a warning message displays when using another application that a .DLL file is missing, copy the required file from the DLL folder on the WorkCentre 450c CD-ROM. Copy the file to the Windows/System folder on your PC. Installing Symantec WinFax Lite 4.0 When installing WinFax Lite 4.0 software, the Communications Port Test displays the message "Unknown fax/modem has been detected." You can ignore this message. WinFax Lite will use the WorkCentre 450c as its fax/modem. WorkCentre 450c Guided Tour and User Guide The WorkCentre 450c Guided Tour and User Guide are located in the WorkCentre 450c program folder (group) and listed in the online Help contents. If you did not install the Guided Tour or User Guide on your PC, insert the WorkCentre 450c CD-ROM or floppy disk into the appropriate drive before running the tour or opening the guide. To successfully run the WorkCentre 450c Guided Tour, your computer must have sound capability and the display must be set to at least 256 colors. To set the display to 256 colors, click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click Display and then click the Settings tab in the Display Properties window. Set the Color Palette to at least 256 colors and click OK. You will need to restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Adobe Acrobat 2.1 If you print a large .pdf file (for example, the Document WorkCentre 450c User Guide) from Adobe Acrobat 2.1, a spooling error may occur. If an error occurs, cancel the print job. Print the file by printing no more than 60 pages at one time until you’ve printed the entire file. When printing from Adobe Acrobat 2.1, a spooling error or a General Protection Fault may occur when you cancel the job right after the file begins printing. You will need to restart Windows. Pagis Pro 97 and TextBridge Pro 96 When making a copy on the WorkCentre using the Pagis Scan Tool, do not use the Color Copy option. Doing so causes an internal error. If this error occurs, cancel the error messages displayed on your screen and continue. You do not need to restart Windows or your PC. When making a copy from Pagis, do not use the Enhance Text and Pictures option. Doing so results in a faulty copy. The version of Instant Access OCR included with Pagis Pro 97 and Textbridge Pro 96 is not compatible with Microsoft Word 97. You can download an upgrade from the following Web Site: http://www.xerox.com/xis.txtbridge/. Scanning Applications If the message "This version of msvcrt20.dll not compatible with Win32s" appears during installation, you may have an incompatible version of this file. You should replace this file with the correct version. On the WorkCentre 450c CD-ROM, the correct version of msvcrt20.dll is located in the new_dlls\mvcrt.32s folder. Copy this file to your Windows\System folder on your PC. Adobe PageMaker is incompatible with images scanned using the WorkCentre 450c. To use the images with PageMaker, scan them using another application and save the images in TIFF format. In PageMaker, use the Place to Import the TIFF File command from the File menu to import the files. Jasc PaintShopPro versions earlier than 4.0 are incompatible with WorkCentre 450c software for Windows 95. Jasc PaintShopPro versions earlier than 3.12 are incompatible with WorkCentre 450c software for Windows 3.1. Adobe Photoshop 3.0 does not support the latest TWAIN_32 standard. Contact Adobe for a patch or an upgrade. Micrographix Picture Publisher does not support scanning images on the WorkCentre 450c using 16 shades of gray. Picture Publisher supports scanning in black and white mode only. To use gray images in Picture Publisher, scan them another application and save the images in TIFF format. In Picture Publisher, use the Open command from the File menu to open the TIFF files. Printing If the WorkCentre stops while spooling a Microsoft Word 7.0 document, you should End Task (press CTRL+ALT+DEL, select Microsoft Word, and click End Task), restart Word, and print the document without using background printing. (From the Tools menu, click Options. Click the Print tab and make sure Background Printing is unchecked.) When using the Color, Photo, and High Quality options on the Main Controls property page to print photographic images from Adobe Photoshop or Jasc PaintShopPro, make sure Automatic Image Enhancement on the Advanced property page is not selected. When printing a color document from Adobe Photoshop, make sure that the Color Setting is RGB. You should restart your computer in MS-DOS mode before running WordPerfect for DOS. Printing a document using WordPerfect (V6.0 for DOS) in a Windows 95 MS-DOS Prompt window will cause a General Protection Fault. (This is a problem with WordPerfect.) When printing faxes from memory, the WorkCentre may stop before the complete fax is printed. Wait approximately two minutes. The WorkCentre might reset the printer automatically. If the WorkCentre doesn’t reset the printer, do the following: 1. Press the MENU key. 2. Press 6 [Printer] and ENTER. 3. Press 2 [Reset printer] and ENTER. The WorkCentre will eject the partially printed page, and then reprint the complete page and any additional pages. If the high capacity ink jet cartridge installed in the WorkCentre and the Print Quality is set to Fast on the Main Controls property page, white streaks may appear on the printed pages that contain large, solid black areas. You can eliminate the streaks by changing the Print Quality to Normal or High Quality. (In the WorkCentre 450c Status window, click Printer to display the Main Controls property page.) When changing a color ink cartridge, move the green carriage lock lever toward the front of the WorkCentre before removing the cartridge. After installing the new ink cartridge, move the lever toward the back of the WorkCentre. If you need to change an ink cartridge during a print job, cancel the job and then resend it after you’ve installed the new tank cartridge. More information on the WorkCentre printer driver is provided in the PrntRead.txt file, which is located on your WorkCentre 450c CD-ROM. Windows 95 Users If you are using both the WorkCentre 450c and the Logitech PageScan Color scanner with your PC, placing a document in the PageScan Color scanner may cause Windows 95 to crash. Logitech recommends that you delete the file WAKEUP16.DLL or comment out any reference to it from your SYSTEM.INI file. If you’ve set up User Profiles to allow individual users to customize their settings, the WorkCentre icons are installed only on the desktop of the logged-on user who installed the WorkCentre 450c software. To display the WorkCentre icons on the desktops of other users, copy the icons to your Startup folder. Windows 3.1/3.11 Users When restoring defaults on the Panel property page in the WorkCentre 450c Settings window, a confirmation box displays. Use the mouse to click Yes. If you press the ENTER key, Windows may stop responding and you will need to restart your computer. Although you can select the Use Print Manager option for the Xerox WorkCentre 400c Series in the Printers window, the Xerox WorkCentre 400c Series Spool Manager will control the print queue, not the Windows Print Manager. WorkCentre 450c Phonebooks It is strongly recommended that you make backup copies of any Phonebooks you create for speed dialing. For instructions on how to make a backup copy, click the Help button in the WorkCentre 450c Status window. Click the Index tab, select "Saving a Phonebook to your PC" from the index entries, then click Display.Download Driver Pack
