INTRODUCTION The diskette contains version 2.8.3 of the Xerox DocuPrint 4232 PCL 5e Emulation Printer Driver for Windows. This printer driver enables the printer to print with Microsoft Windows version 3.1, 3.11, and 95. Note: The driver included on this disk is intended for use with Microsoft Windows version 3.1, 3.11, and 95. This driver is not recommended for use with Windows version 3.0. This driver is a proprietary Xerox version that may offer better performance for some applications. A Microsoft Universal Printer Driver version is provided for your use separately on diskette part number 301E07991. INSTALLING THE PCL 5e PRINTER DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 3.1 and 3.11 You must follow the steps outlined in the Windows 3.1 Users Guide under Control Panel/Installing a Printer File in order to install this printer driver. Please read all instructions in this section before attempting to install any driver on the disk included in this package. If your Windows 3.1 Users Guide is not handy, below is an outline of the steps required. 1. In the Main group, choose the Control Panel icon. 2. In Control Panel, choose the Printers icon. The Printers dialog box appears. If you have never installed a printer, the dialog box expands to display a list of printers available in the Windows version 3.1 package, and the Add button is unavailable. Go to step 8. 3. Choose the Add button. The dialog box expands to display the List Of Printers. 4. In the List Of Printers box, select Install Unlisted or Updated Printer. 5. Choose the Install button. A dialog box appears, instructing you to insert the disk that has the printer-driver file on it. 6. Insert the disk which contains the printer driver, or type the path of the directory where you downloaded the driver. Then choose the OK button. Another dialog box appears, listing several printers. 7. In the List Of Printers box, select the printer you want. 8. Choose the OK button. The Printers dialog box appears. Your printer is listed in the Installed Printers list. 9. Choose the Close button. 10. For instructions on how to configure your printer, see Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide." INSTALLING THE PCL 5e PRINTER DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 95 Install the drivers using the standard Windows 95 "Add Printer" wizard: 1. Follow the screens until the manufacturer/model window appears. 2. Select the "Have Disk" button. 3. Select "OK" from the Install From Disk window. 4. Select the desired printer driver from the Add Printer Wizard window. 5. Continue the installation as directed by the Add Printer Wizard. GENERAL INFORMATION Fonts supported in this driver are available from your local Xerox or Xerox Limited Font Support Center. If problems occur when printing with Graphics Mode, in the Options tab, set to HP-GL/2, try setting the Graphics Mode to Raster. You may also find that some images print better in Raster than in HP-GL/2 mode. If you continue to have problems with specific images, try changing the Graphics Quality, Gray Scale and Printer Resolution settings. The color rendering in gray scale patterns for some applications may require the user to change the color for a more pleasing output. If that is not sufficient, the workaround is to print at 300 dpi. If you are experiencing problems selecting paper trays, you should review the source mapping section of the printer's user guide and your application's documentation regarding paper selection. NOTE: In the Windows 95 environment, the printer resolution options (e.g. 300 dpi, 600 dpi) are only selectable from the Control Panel under the "Printers" dialog box and are not displayed as selectable options when printing within an application (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.). By choosing the Printer Properties of the Xerox DocuPrint 4232, the resolution settings will be displayed. In the Windows 3.1 environment, the printer resolution options (e.g. 300 dpi, 600 dpi) are not selectable from within the Microsoft PowerPoint application. These options can be set from the Windows Control Panel. XEROX SOFTWARE LICENSE XEROX is a registered trademark of the Xerox Corporation.
