   SCO UNIX 5.X

   Introduction:
   -------------
      This document describes the procedure to install the SCO UNIX driver
      for AcerLAN ALN-101 PnP Ethernet adapter.

   Note:
   -----
      If your SCO UNIX system don't have Plug & Play BIOS, you should
      set your ALN-101 PnP Ethernet adapter to Jumperless mode.

   Location of Driver:     \SCO\DRIVER.O

   The following files will be used in this installation:

      DRIVER.O    :  AcerLAN ALN-101 SCO Driver Program
      SETUP       :  Transfer dos format to unix format setup program
      INFO        :  Used by netconfig
      INIT        :  Used by netconfig
      MASTER      :  Used by netconfig
      NODE        :  Used by netconfig
      RECONF      :  Used by netconfig
      REMOVE      :  Used by netconfig
      SPACE.C     :  Used by netconfig
      SYSTEM      :  Used by netconfig


   Installing driver procedure on SCO UNIX 5.X :
   --------------------------------------------
      Before you start with the installation process, make sure that the
      SCO UNIX system is properly installed. Similarly,your adapter should
      also be properly installed in your machine.

      1. Login as root user. (On maintenance mode)

      2. Put AcerLAN Driver diskette to floppy A: and use doscp
         command to copy the file "setup" for installing ALN-101
         SCO UNIX Driver into UNIX's directories as following :

             # cd /
             # doscp a:/sco/setup /setup
             # chmod +x /setup
             # ./setup

        !! if you don't have the directory ,namely, "a:/sco/." in
           the disk, you should modify contents of the setup file in
           the floppy. Please check contents of the setup file.

      3. Use netconfig utility

         Avaiable options:

         # netconfig

      4.  To add adapters, select "Add New Lan Adapter" from "Hardware".

      5.  Add Protocol to select SCO TCP/IP.

      6.  Enter the internet Address of this interface   n.n.n.n

      7.  Enter the netmask for this interface     (default 255.255.255.0)

      8.  Enter the boardcast address for this interface   default: n.n.n.n

      9.  Do you want to relink to kernel now ?               y

      10.  Do you want this kernel to boot by default (y/n)    y

      11. Do you want the kernel environment rebuilt (y/n)    y

      12. Reboot unix

          # shutdown -g0

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
