KX_Update_NT4.txt Driver File Contents (KX0806a.exe)

				October 15, 2001

The steps detailed below describe the most reliable method to upgrade printer driver versions 0518 and 0723 installed on a Windows NT 4 Server and shared with Windows 2000, Windows NT4 and Windows 9x clients.

Preparation:

Shutdown all client systems. It would be best to perform the upgrade at the end of the day. You can simply ask all users to shutdown before going home. All Windows 9X/ME users must delete all network printers on their system that use KX drivers before shutting down. Deleting the printers is not necessary on Windows NT4 Clients. It is also not necessary on Windows 2000 Clients as long as they are members of the Domain where the printer resides (See 9X upgrade procedure for details).

Server Driver:

1. Restart the server

2. Open the Printers folder by clicking Start button, selecting Settings and then clicking Printers.

3. Right Mouse click on the printer and select Properties.

4. DO NOT select any tab but the general tab.

5. Click the new driver button.

6. Browse to the driver files.

7. Select the OEMSETUP file then OK.

8. If you are asked to replace Japanese files with English versions select yes in both cases.

9. Click ok after all files have been copied.

10. Log off the server.

11. Log back on and set up the device options under the Device Setting tab.

12. If there are alternative drivers installed select the sharing tab and highlight the alternate OS then click Ok.

13. At this point the server will ask you for the Windows 95 flat share, this means the new driver files.

14. Once the files are copied click OK.

15. Print a test page.

16. Log off the server.

5. Click the About tab. Verify that the driver version displayed is correct.

6. Click the General tab, then the Print Test Page button.

7. Click the Device Settings tab. Verify that the device settings are correct.

8. Close the Printer properties dialog by Clicking OK.

9. Open any application and print a document. Verify the document prints correctly.

Windows NT4 Client Printer Driver Upgrade:

1. Power on the client.

2. Open the Printer properties by right clicking on the printer icon and selecting Properties.

3. Click the About tab. Verify that the driver version displayed is correct.

4. Click the General tab, then the Print Test Page button.

5. Click the Device Settings tab. Verify that the device settings are correct.

6. Close the Printer properties dialog by Clicking OK.
