The steps detailed below describe the most reliable method to upgrade printer driver versions 0518 and 0723 installed on a Windows 2000 Server and shared with Windows 2000, NT4, and Windows 9X clients.  For stand alone or shared installations on Windows 2000 Professional systems follow the Server instructions to update the driver.


Preparation:

Shutdown all client systems.  It would be best to perform the upgrade at the end of the day.  You can simply ask all users to shutdown before going home.  For Windows 9X systems the user must delete all network printers on their system that use KX drivers before shutting down.

Server Driver:

1. Restart the server

2. Open the Printers folder by clicking Start button, selecting Settings and then clicking Printers.

3. Click the File menu and select Server Properties.

4. Click the Drivers tab.

5. If there are Alternative drivers (such as for Windows 95, 98, or Me) installed on the server, highlight those drivers and click Update.

6. Click Yes in the Print Server Properties dialog that appears on-screen.

7. In the Printer Drivers dialog that appears, click Browse and navigate to the location (CD-ROM - Hard Disk Directory) and select the OEMSETUP file, and click Open.

8. Click OK in the Printer Drivers dialog box.

9. After the drivers have completed updating, click the driver listing for the Windows 2000 & NT4 drivers.

10. Click Update.

11. Follow the instructions in Steps 6 through 9 above.

12. Click Close in the Server Properties window.

13. Open the Printer properties by right clicking on the printer icon and selecting Properties.

14. Click the About tab. Verify that the driver version displayed is correct.

15. Click the General tab, then the Print Test Page button.

16. Click the Device Settings tab. Verify that the device settings are correct. If they are not correct, reset the device settings.

17. Close the Printer properties dialog by Clicking OK.



Windows NT4/2000 Client Printer Driver Upgrade:

1. Power on the workstation.

2. Open the Printer properties by right clicking on the printer icon and selecting Properties.

3. Click the About tab. Verify that the driver version displayed is correct.

4. Click the General tab, then the Print Test Page button.

5. Click the Device Settings tab. Verify that the device settings are correct. 

6. Close the Printer properties dialog by Clicking OK.

7. Open any application and print a document. Verify the document prints correctly.



Windows 95, 98 & Me Client Printer Driver Upgrade:

1. Power on the Windows 9X/Me client.

2. Reconnect the network printers using either the Add Printer Wizard or by finding the printers in Network Neighborhood and Double Clicking the printer.

3. If prompted select Replace Existing Driver

4. Open the Printer properties by right clicking on the printer icon and selecting Properties.

5. Click the About tab. Verify that the driver version displayed is correct.

6. Click the General tab, then the Print Test Page button.

7. Click the Device Settings tab. Verify that the device settings are correct. 

8. Close the Printer properties dialog by Clicking OK.

9. Open any application and print a document.  Verify the document prints correctly.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
