Upgrading Your 3ComImpact II Integrated Access TA
Release 4.10
-------------------------------------------------
You may wish to print this document to use as a reference during
installation.

The accompanying ReadMe file includes all the last minute, up-to-date
information about enhancements and added features to the 3ComImpact II
Integrated Access TA (also referred to in this document as the
Integrated Access TA, terminal adapter, or TA) available with this
release. You should choose to read the ReadMe file when prompted to do
so during the upgrade process.

Upgrading your 3ComImpact II Integrated Access TA requires two main
steps.

·	Install the latest software
·	Upgrade the firmware

Note the difference between the terms firmware and software. Software
is the program that runs on your computer and is used to communicate
with the Integrated Access TA. Firmware resides in the TA and controls
the TA's functions.

To upgrade your 3ComImpact II Integrated Access TA, follow these
procedures:

We assume that you have already downloaded the latest release from
either 3Com's WWW or FTP site to your computer. There are several
paths to the correct upgrade file in addition to those listed here. At
the time of printing, the following are at least three current paths
by which the file, labelled "II410.EXE", may be accessed:

	Via WWW:
	http://www.3com.com/
From the home page, select "Support". Then, from the "Free
Drivers and Other Software" section choose "Terminal Adapters,
ISDN and Cable Modems", then "3ComImpact II", and finally
	"II410.EXE".

Or, from the home page, select "Support". Under "Documents and
Software By Product Category" choose "ISDN and Cable Modems",
then "3ComImpact II", then "Software", and finally "II410.EXE".

	Via FTP:
	ftp://ftp.3com.com/pub/3COM-IMPACT-II/II410.EXE

1. If you have not already done so, download the II410.EXE file into a
temporary directory on your PC.

2. Double-click II410.EXE. This will extract all the necessary files
required to continue the installation procedure.

3. Once you have extracted the files, locate the setup.exe file and
double-click. Then, click Next.

4. Select the directory into which to install the software. (If you
do not have the older version of firmware and software on diskette,
you may want to make a copy before deleting.) Otherwise, click Next
to install the software into the default directory. If asked to
overwrite any existing files, click Yes.

NOTE: If you are a Windows 3.1 user and you have previously installed
a COM Port Accelerator, you will be asked if you want to reinstall the
COM Port Accelerator. Click Cancel.

	NOTE FOR APTIVA USERS:
Aptiva users may have to perform additional steps to
successfully upgrade the firmware to version 4.10.
If you have problems connecting to the Integrated Access TA
when starting the configuration application, refer to the
section "Aptiva Upgrade Instructions", located at the end of
this document, for detailed assistance. All other users may
	continue with Step 5 below.

5. After installation is completed, locate the 3ComImpact II program
group icon and double-click the 3ComImpact II globe. This will open
the Configuration application.

6. Select your country from the drop down country list.

7. At this point you may be prompted to upgrade your firmware to the
latest version (this may take several minutes). Click YES to begin the
firmware download process. Once the firmware upgrade process has been
successfully completed, click OK.

If you are not automatically prompted to upgrade, then the firmware was
not copied into the default directory during installation. If this is
the case, open the Configuration window, click Tools, then Firmware.
Locate the upgrade file II410.BIN. Once you have located the file,
select II410.BIN. Then click OK to upgrade the firmware. Click OK when
you are finished.

8. Once the upgrade process is completed, you will have to re-enter
your settings (i.e., telephone numbers and call routing choices) in the
Configuration window. Refer to "Configuring the Integrated Access TA"
in your Quick Start Guide if you have forgotten how to configure the
information in this window. Once you have finished, click Update. You
will be asked if you are sure you want to change the 3ComImpact II
provisioning. Click Yes; then click Exit to return to Windows.
