Microsoft Windows NT* 3.51 Installation Notes for Intel's
EtherExpress(TM) PRO/10 ISA Adapter

                         \NT\OEMSETUP.INF (setup file)


Requirements
------------

Make sure you are using Intel EtherExpress PRO/10+ ISA adapter disk SW
release 3.5 or later. If you don't have this release, you can get it from
one of Intel's online services. For more information, see the document on
contacting Intel's Customer Support.


General Installation

If you haven't installed Windows NT 3.51
----------------------------------------
If you have a flash adapter, the first time you turn on the computer
you'll see the configuration program running from the adapter's flash
memory. Exit this program.

1  Install NT. During NT Setup, you're asked to select a Network Adapter
   Card.
   
   -  Select "<Other>" from the list. Insert either the EtherExpress
      PRO/10+ ISA adapter disk SW Release 3.5 or greater, or a disk with
      the downloaded driver files.

2  When prompted, enter A:\NT as the path to the driver.

3  The Intel PROSet program automatically scans computer resources and
   assigns conflict-free settings to your adapter.

4  Click the Test button.

   If you've just added the adapter, the network driver won't be active,
   and the diagnostics will test the adapter and its network connection.

5  When NT Setup finishes, restart your computer and use the File Manager
   to connect to the network.


If you've already installed Windows NT 3.51
-------------------------------------------

If you have a flash adapter, the first time you turn on the computer
you'll see the configuration program running from the adapter's flash
memory. Exit this program.

1  In Windows NT, select the Network icon in the Control Panel, then
   choose Add Adapter.

2  When the list of available adapters displays, select "<Other>" at the
   end of the list.

3  Insert the EtherExpress PRO/10 adapter disk SW release 3.5 or greater,
   or a disk with the downloaded driver files.

4  When prompted, enter A:\NT as the path to the driver.

5  The Intel PROSet program automatically scans computer resources and
   assigns conflict-free settings to your adapter.

6  Click the Test button.

   If you've just added the adapter, the network driver won't be active,
   and the diagnostics will test the adapter and its network connection.

7  Choose OK to accept the adapter's configuration.

8  Restart Windows NT when prompted. Use the File Manager to connect to
   the network.



Troubleshooting
===============

-  Make sure the adapter is seated firmly in the slot.

-  Make sure the network cable is securely attached.

-  If Windows NT can't find the adapter, disable Plug and Play using
   SoftSet2's Advanced Options menu. You must reboot to DOS to run
   SoftSet2. After disabling Plug and Play, reboot Windows NT.

-  If you experience problems with your EtherExpress PRO/10 ISA adapter
   after adding another Plug and Play device to your computer, run the
   Intel PROSet utility again and reconfigure the adapter. To run the
   Intel PROSet adapter setup program, double-click the system icon in
   Control Panel, then click "Intel PRO/10 adapter" from the Installed
   Adapter Cards list box, then click Configure.

-  Test the adapter.  Follow these steps to use the Intel PROSet
   utility's test feature:
   
      1    Open the Control Panel, then double-click the Network icon.
   
      2    Select "Intel PRO/10 ISA adapter" from the Installed Adapter
      Cards     list box.
   
      3    Choose "Configure," then choose "Test."
   
      If you've just installed the adapter, the network driver won't be
      active, and the diagnostics will test the adapter and its network
      connection.
   
      If you're testing an adapter that has already been installed, the
      network driver will probably be active, and the diagnostics will
      test the driver and track the driver's actual network activity.

-  Check with your LAN administrator; you may need to install
   supplemental networking software.

-  If the Intel PROSet utility won't run, or power management and full
   duplex mode aren't available, try updating the adapter's driver: From
   the Network Setup window, select the adapter, choose Remove, then
   follow the "If you've already installed Windows NT 3.51" instructions
   above.
