INTRODUCTION
=============
The NetFlex-3 NDIS 3.0 Miniport Driver is designed to provide NDIS 3.0
functionality to the Compaq Integrated NetFlex-3 Controllers, and Compaq
Netelligent 10/100 TX Embedded Controllers on Microsoft Windows 95.
For NDIS 4.0 Support on Windows 95 OSR2 and Later, please go to the
\CPQNET\OSR2 Directory. The NDIS 4.0 Driver will not work on
versions of Win95 prior to OSR2.
This text file describes how to install and use the NetFlex-3 driver
for Windows 95.

INSTALLING THE DRIVER
=====================
This section provides instructions on how to install the driver for Windows 95:
INSTALLING THE DRIVER FOR USE WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS 95

If you have a previous version of the NetFlex-3 Driver installed in
Windows 95, perform the following steps to remove it before proceeding to
step 1 below:
a. Run "Network" from Control Panel.
b. Highlight the "NetFlex-3 Network Adapter" entry and click
"Remove". Then, click "OK".
c. Restart Windows when prompted.
1. On booting Windows 95 for the first time after installing, a
"New Hardware Found" dialog box will appear stating that Windows 95
has detected a "PCI Network Controller". From this dialog box,
select "Driver from disk provided by manufacturer", and press OK.
Note:
If on booting Windows 95, you do not get the "New Hardware Found" dialog
box, you should go to Windows 95 Control Panel and select the "System"
icon. Under the "Device Manager" menu, under "Other Devices", you
should see an entry "PCI Network Controller". Highlight this entry
and click on the "Remove" button. Afterwards, restart your
computer and follow the installation instructions from Step 1.
2. Insert the "NetFlex-3 Driver Diskette" in drive A:.
3. When prompted for the pathname of the vendor-provided network
driver disk, enter "A:\CPQNET\WIN95\", and press OK.
4. You may be prompted to select a device. If prompted, select the "NetFlex-3"
Adapter". The driver will then be installed.
5. You will then be prompted to enter the path for your Windows 95 system
files. If you are using the CD-ROM based release of Windows 95, enter
the pathname "e:\win95" (where e: is your CD-ROM drive). If you are
using the floppy-based release of Windows 95, insert the appropriate
diskettes as directed by Windows 95.
6. When asked if you wish to restart your computer, select 'No'.
7. If you wish to modify driver settings to change the default operation
of the driver:
a. Go to the Control Panel and select the "Network" icon.
b. Highlight the "NetFlex-3" entry and press
the Properties button.
8. You may wish to press the "File and Print Sharing" button to enable
sharing on your machine. In addition, you should check that the
information listed under the "Identification" menu is correct.
9. After setting all desired options, remove the floppy diskette from the
floppy drive and re-start your system.
CONFIGURING THE NETFLEX-3 DRIVER
=================================
1. Select Main->Control Panel->Network
2. Select the adapter to be configured and then select Properties.
3. Make the appropriate changes.
4. When you are finished configuring the adapter, select OK and then select OK again.
5. When prompted the restart your system, select Restart Now.
MEDIA SPEED
The Integrated NetFlex-3 controller comes with the 10Base-T and can be upgraded with the
100Base-TX module as you upgrade your network to 100-Mbps technology.
The speed is automatically set depending upon the module you have installed.
In some instances you may want to run your 100Base-TX module with a 10Base-T network. If
so, change the speed by selecting the appropriate speed from the Advanced Section on the
screen. In order to use the 100Base-TX module, UTP must be used, where as BNC will not
support 100-Mbps technology. No upgrade module is needed on the Compaq Netelligent
10/100 TX Embedded Controllers. When using the AUI port on the Compaq Netelligent 10/100
TX Embedded Controllers, your media speed must be set to 10Mbs.
DUPLEX SETTING
The Compaq Integrated NetFlex-3 and Netelligent Adapters can run either Full Duplex or Half
Duplex. The default is Half Duplex. To enable Full Duplex operation, select the Full Duplex
setting in the Advanced Section of the NetFlex-3 Controller Properties. Note: Selecting
Full Duplex operation requires using the UTP (unshielded twisted pair) Media Connector and
requires Network Concentrators that support full duplex. The NetFlex-3 NDIS 3.0 Miniport
Driver supports Duplex Autonegotiation. If the setting is set to AUTO, the driver will
determine which Duplex your Networking Hardware is set to.
MEDIA CONNECTOR
The media connection is auto-detected in most cases. However, for 10Base-2, use this
parameter to force the use of the BNC, or AUI connector. The default is to have the hardware
determine the correct connector to use. For some 10Base-T hubs which do not provide the
correct link pulse, selecting the UTP setting will force the hardware to use the UTP
connector.
NETWORK ADDRESS
To use a network address other than the one burned into the adapter card, enter the locally
administrated network address in hexadecimal form, in the following format:
XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX (Example: 04-02-03-4E-2D-1F)
If the network address is left blank, the network address burned into the adapter card will
be used. If you do not know what locally administrated network address to use, ask your
network administrator. This value has to be unique.
REMOTE WAKE UP
To enable the Remote Wake Up feature on Compaq Netelligent 10/100 TX Embedded Controllers,
simply change the setting to "ON". Note: This Feature will only work on Deskpro models
using a Embedded Netelligent Controller containing the TLAN 3.14 and above.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
