============================================ ANA-620XX AND ANA-690XX DOS DIAGNOSTICS ============================================ The diagnostics are intended to operate on MS-DOS version 6.22. You may operate the diagnostics under Win95 and Win98 by setting up using the instructions listed in the section below labeled "1. RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS FROM A HARD DRIVE", then choosing the "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode" selection in the system shutdown menu. The diagnostics DO NOT operate under WinNT. This readme file contains the following sections: 1. Running diagnostics from a hard drive. 2. Running diagnostics from a floppy drive. 3. Miscellaneous runtime information. ============================================ 1. RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS FROM A HARD DRIVE ============================================ Operate the diagnostics from your hard drive as follows: 1) Make sure himem.sys and emm386.exe are currently in your config.sys file, and that files=30 is there. If they are not, add the following lines to the top of the config.sys file: device=c:\dos\himem.sys device=c:\dos\emm386.exe /noems files=30 NOTE: Insert your path to the DOS programs if it is not c:\dos. 2) Create a directory for the diagnostics on your hard drive. 3) Copy all the files in this directory to the new diagnostics directory of hard drive. 4) Invoke the diagnostics by typing go_diags in the new diagnostics directory. NOTE: Certain PC BIOSes do not provide all the XMS services required. If you encounter errors running diagnostics, running the smartdrv.exe program will replace the BIOS XMS routines with the correct XMS services. 5) If you still encounter errors operating diagnostics, please try the method below, Running diagnostics from a floppy drive. ============================================= 2. RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS FROM A FLOPPY DRIVE ============================================= Prepare a DOS diagnostics boot diskette as follows: 1) Create a bootable DOS diskette. 2) Copy the DOS files himem.sys, emm386.exe, and smartdrv.exe to the diskette. 3) Copy all the files in this directory to the root directory of the DOS boot diskette. 4) Boot the computer from the floppy diskette. 5) Invoke the diagnostics by typing go_diags. ============================================= 3. MISCELLANEOUS RUNTIME INFORMATION ============================================= 1) Use the "selftest" command to test the functionality of your adapter. 2) Use the "?" key to list available diagnostics commands. 3) You may experience error messages and may need to reboot your system if you exit diagnostics by using <Ctrl> C. Use the exit command to exit diagnostics. 4) The "echoer 0" command will echo packets forever. You will need to reboot your system to exit from the "echoer 0" command. 5) It is recommended that the echoer and sender tests be performed on a private network between systems that are connected with a hub, not a switch. 6) For multiport adapters, the top port is port 1, and the next lowest port is port 2 etc. Some rare system BIOSes allocate port 1 as the bottom port. 7) The diagnostics are to test one board per system. It is recommended that only one board be installed in the system when diagnostics are performed. 8) Check the Adaptec website for the latest diagnostics updates. http://www.adaptec.comDownload Driver Pack
