Racore M8195-000-A Troubleshooting guide.

This is a preliminary document.

The Racore M8195 16/4 Fiber Token-Ring Adapter is based on the IBM Wake On Lan Token Ring
MAC controller. The M8195 can use all existing drivers for the IBM Wake On Lan PCI adapter.

Please be aware of the following issues:

1. Datarate (Ring Speed)
The M8195 Token-Ring adapter can automatically detect the network datarate. This
can be problematic for the first system to insert into a previously unused ring. Since
the adapter will attempt to insert into the ring at the existing datarate, if there are no
other stations or devices on the ring, insertion will fail because it fails to detect an
	existing datarate.

To avoid this situation, the Racore installation scripts will set the adapter to a default
datarate of 16Mbps. If you desire to use Autodetect, you will need to set or select
the 'AUTO' option during the install process.

If you install the default IBM Wake On Lan PCI drivers, you may need to set the datarate
to M16 on any system which can be the first to insert into a specific ring

2. Windows Support
Windows98 SE and Windows2000 have default drivers that will work with the Racore M8195.
If you select to use a detected driver which is included with these Windows platforms, please be
aware of the Autodetect issue noted in item 1 above.

WindowsNT 4.0 and Windows2000 include support for the redundant adapter fail-over features
	supported by the Racore M8195.

3. NetWare Server
Netware 4.11 and Netware 5.x have default IBM drivers that are compatible with the Racore
M8195. The IBM drivers will, by default, install with Autodetect enabled for the adapter data
rate. The Racore installation script will default to 16Mbps. See item 1 above.

NetWare Server 4.11 and 5.x include support for the redundant adapter fail-over features
	supported by the Racore M8195.

4. NetWare 16 bit DOS Client
The NetWare 16 bit DOS client driver (IBMTRPO.EXE) is too large to fit into the assumed
format of a .COM driver file for NetWare. Some versions of the NetWare client install will not copy
a .EXE file, and you may need to copy this file to the client system by hand.

5. Wake On Lan
If you do not use the Wake On Lan feature of the M8195, and the three pin Wake On Lan power
cable is not connected from the adapter to the system motherboard, you may need to disable the
WOL or Wake On Lan feature in the power management section of your BIOS setup. You may
be unable to power down some systems if WOL for network adapters is enabled in the BIOS, and the
WOL power cable is not connected to the adapter.
