Scope.exe is a Windows GUI program for acquiring data with the PARxCH,
writing it to a file, and displaying the results as scope traces.

To run scope, first make sure the board is powered up.  If you have
trouble, verify correct installation by running the diag.exe program
in \sr\parxch\diags.

To start the program, type scope.exe at the command line prompt or the
Windows Run dialog accessed from the start menu.

The scope menu selections Program > Run and Program > Stop will start
and stop acquisition.  Binary output data files will be placed in the
directory specified in the Options > Output dialog.

Scope can also accept the name of a .ini initialization file as a
command line argument.  For example:

> scope scope.ini


Avoid moving or resizing the main window while acquisition is underway
as this can delay processing and in extreme cases cause a PARxCH FIFO
buffer overflow.

Because scope was created using the Microsoft Foundation Classes, it
must be able to find some MFC DLL files at run time.



* FILES EMITTED BY SCOPE

Scope can produce a number of output files.  They are:

        SCOPE.HDR     OUT format binary header parameter file
            *.OUT     OUT format binary data file
            *.DAT     DAT format binary data file
            *.INI     INI program parameter settings file

The .ini file saves the current program menu option settings.  It can
be written with the Options > Write ini file menu selection.  It can
also be read in with the Options > Read ini file menu selection to
restore those settings.

Many of the .ini acquisition parameters are also saved to a binary
.hdr file.  This header file is intended for downstream programs to
read in so they can know the sampling rate and other parameters data
was acquired with.

The .out files have the raw multiplexed binary data that has been
acquired.  Saving data in binary format allows for fast disk saves
and the fastest data acquisition possible.

The .dat files, introduced to support GPS, combine the binary header
and analog data information into a single file.  This new output
format also allows for the inclusion of other types of data such as
the GPS PPS and serial data.  See srdat.h for more information about
the .dat file layout.  See the convert\ascii directory for a program
to convert .dat files into simple ASCII text.

Generally all of these files have the same format and are compatible
with the files produced by the command line only simpxch.



* NOTE TO PARGPS USERS

In order to use the SR PARGPS board with the PARxCH for adding accurate
timing information to your acquired data, you need 

1) The SR PARGPS board and software.  
2) PARxCH firmware Rev 3.0 or greater (check the label on the enclosure).  
3) The PARxCH software compiled with GPS support.  This can be done
   from the top level makeall file by changing the GPS_YES_OR_NO
   value from "No" to "Yes", recompiling, and reinstalling the driver. 

You will need to include proper settings for the .ini keywords
GpsEnable, GpsDriverName, and GpsSerialPort.  Also, be sure to set
OutputFileFormat keyword to DAT since the .out files can't accomodate
GPS data.



* NOTE TO IASPEI SUDS (SEISMIC UNIFIED DATA STRUCTURE) USERS

Scope outputs binary data files.  See the convert\suds directory
for conversion programs.  The out2sud program works on .out files and
requires the .hdr binary header file that is automatically generated
by scope.  The dat2sud program works on .dat files.



* COMPILE WITH MS VC++ 6.0

Scope.exe must be compiled with the MS VC++ 6.0 and the Microsoft
Foundation Classes (MFC).  Compiling with other compilers may be
difficult.  


* VC++ IDE PROGRAMMERS NOTE

The files scope.dsw and scope.dsp are, respectively, Workspace and
Project files for building scope.exe from within the Microsoft
Developer Studio v6.0 integrated development environment rather than
from the command line.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
