to "10BaseT-HD", ethernet always switched back to "10BaseT-FD"
if auto-negotiation is supported by switch/hub.

to "10BaseT-HD", restart caused connection to operate with
"100BaseTX_??" if auto-negotiation is supported by switch/hub.
- [Fw460005]:
Ether link-up event with 10 Mbps link speed sometimes caused CP to crash.

When connected to certain devices with long cables (more than 75 meters),
Ethernet could have very poor performance and high packet loss.
The fix for the "short-cable" bug introduced in firmware version 4.20
erroneously changed the DSP parameters sometimes with long cables, too.

The ComPoint's factory default setting of DHCP has been changed
from "disabled" to "enabled". That means: resetting the configuration
forces a DHCP discovery on system restart.
You may change this behaviour by manually disabling DHCP.
Changes and improvements
New:
Multipoint Bridge
- For each wireless card configured as bridge, now up
to 6 links to different bridge partners can be configured.
The default names for bridges now are made like "wl1br1",
"wl1br2", with a unique number for each bridge link. There
is always at least 1 link for each bridge, i.e. the last
bridge link on a card cannot be removed.
- In Telnet menus, things had to be rearranged in order to allow
individual configuration of multiple links. The values for "DS channel",
"Speed mode", "Encapsulation" and the WEP settings are common for every
bridge link on the same card.
- User interface: For easier identification of bridge links,
user-defined alias names can be assigned to every bridge link.
The following restrictions apply to those alias names:
+ each name must be unique in the system, i.e. you cannot use
a name that matches another port's name.
+ The name must start with a alphabetic character.
+ The name may not be longer than 13 characters.
+ The name may not contain white space (" ") or non-printable characters.
- User interface: "Status summary" now shows a detailed list of every
configured bridge link, including signal strength information.
MAC filter
- The former MAC multicast filter has been extended to
a general MAC filter.
- The default rule (src=any - dst=any - ports=all) always present
in previous versions is no longer displayed explicitly.
- The access to the ComPoint configuration can be restricted
to certain ports (default: all)
Example: the rule (src=local - dst=any - ports=eth1)
allows configuration access only via the Ethernet port.
Telnet user interface
- Made Telnet Navigation easier: The system now remembers the current
menu item and brings you back to the same item when going "back".
- Added forced closing of Telnet session after 3 consecutive invalid
password entries in order to defeat brute force attacks.
- Compoint detects when the telnet client is in local echo mode and
issues a warning message.
- Improved user feedback by visible password entry with "*".
Changes:
Wireless
- In Access Point port statistics, a name is displayed for every client
if name is available, i.e. clients works with ComCard.
- For Bridge and Double Bridge, an automatic link check is now done
every 5 minutes. If there is no reply for 2 consecutive checks,
the bridge link status LED changes from steady light to blinking.
- Bridge status LEDs now changes from blinking to steady light
immediately after successful auto configuration.
- For Bridge and Double Bridge, Link Test is now possible without
disruption of bridge operation. As a consequence, there is no more
need (and no possibility) to enable/disable Link Test.
The "Link partner" menu item is no longer necessary for Link Test and has
been removed.
- Double Bridge port name has been changed from wl0_brx to wl1_brx.
- Aironet UC/MC support is considered obsolete and has been removed.
- Enhanced Roaming notifications, solving possible problems on switched networks.
- If opening a wireless port fails during ComPoint startup due to some
misconfiguration, the ComPoint no longer crashes but starts without
opening the offending port, giving the opportunity to correct
configuration via telnet.
WEP
- WEP keys are now displayed as "*****" or "*************", depending
on the length of the key entered (40 vs. 128 bit WEP encryption).
- WEP keys with embedded 0x00 bytes are now fully supported.
- WEP no longer gets disabled after performing a remote bridge
configuration.
- If there are unconfigured or disabled bridge links on a card, WEP is
disabled for that card on power-up. This is in order to allow remote
configuration of unconfigured bridge links. An entry in the system
log is written when WEP has been turned off for any port.
DHCP configuration
- Factory default has been changed to DHCP "enabled" state.
- DHCP gets disabled if user manually enters IP address configuration
via the user interface or the CPM. The user also can disable or
enable DHCP via Menu "DHCP->Status[enable/disable]".
- If user disables DHCP, the lease will be released and the
current static IP configuration is used. If a lease request fails the
static IP configuration is also used.
- The DHCP fallback IP address has been removed.
Now the static IP configuration is used instead.
- DHCP startup command has been removed.
Now the user can disable/enable DHCP using the "Status" command
in the DHCP menu.
- "DHCP options" menu has been renamed to "DHCP".
Authentication
- If the interface configuration changes, either explicitly
via an user interface command, or implicitly via DHCP, then
the enabled authentication clients (ACL and/or I802.1x)
now reopen their server connection automatically.
Ethernet Autonegotiation
- Now negotiation always takes place if the link partner supports it.
Manual setting of the link speed and duplex mode is possible only
if "Auto neg mode" is switched to "disabled".
Telnet User Interface
- The label "System reset" has been renamed to "Restart" in the "Control" menu.
- The label "Reset to FD" has been renamed to "Config reset" in the "Control" menu.

Change: DHCP client
- The DHCP client of the ComPoint supports DHCP Servers of
following Operating Systems:
Novell 4.11, Win2k, OS/2 2.4.5 (DHCP ver. 4.1),
Linux Kernel 2.2x (DHCP ver. 3), WinNT 4.0.
- Excluded settings of DHCP options in the DHCP menu. Options
1 and 3 (router and mask) are always requested, so a manual
configuration is not necessary. Other options are still
not available.
- There is only one fallback IP address which is used if DHCP at
startup fails and/or if a DHCP failed while renewing or rebinding
a lease.
- Status indication of a DHCP lease is improved:
DHCP_Options menu command lease:
Lease [none] : dhcp startup is disabled.
Lease [failure]: requesting a lease failed.
Lease [in use] : lease request succeded.
Summary view:
dhcp disabled : dhcp startup is disabled.
dhcp enabled : dhcp startup is enabled, but no lease.
dhcp failure : dhcp is enabled, but lease request failed.
dhcp in use : dhcp startup is enabled, lease request succeded.
- Use of fallback IP address if lease request failed:
DHCP startup is disabled and user triggers manual request: the
stored interface configuration is used, not the fallback IP address.
DHCP startup is enabled: the given fallback IP address is used.
Change: ACL local - User Interface
Removal of local ACL table entries improved:
Now the value "all" or one of the first 8
entries may be selected from the list.
If there are more than 8 entries at the table,
the 8th entry shows "uncompleted".
Unshown MAC addresses must be entered manually
at the prompt to get removed.

MAC addresses (Edit/Remove) may now be
entered without seperators. This functionality is
generalized now and no longer specific to a module.

New features
Protocol Filter
This firmware includes protocol filter. The menu for filter configuration is found at
the menu config>Filtering. A list of 30 protocols can be build. The filtered protocols
can be forwarded (bypassing the multicast filter), forwarded through multicast
filter (and be processed there) or discarded. A default rule specifies the action
for all protocols not listed, either forward, procMcstFlt or discard. Protocols are
identified by their protocol numbers used in dix-ethernet or SNAP headers (see RFC 1700).
Some protocols and protocol suites (for example "INET" including ARP and IP) have been
predefined.
Remote Config for Bridge and Double Bridge
A remote config option was added to the menu of Bridge Ports (config>Ports>Port_wlx_brX).
This option enables configuration of a bridge link to be done from one side. If a bridge
boots with bridge port disabled, this port is set to "remote config allowed". From
the other bridge, remote config can be performed after input of the RemoteMAC, which
is the MAC of the ethernet port (starting with 00:01:CD) of its remote bridge (the one
set to "remote config allowed").
ARPProcessing
The option ARPProcessing was added to filter menu. ARPProcessing replaces IPProcessing.
(The option DetermineIP of the former IPProcessing ist now always set.)
If ARPProcessing is ON, ARP Packets from or to wireless clients associated to any Access
Point port of the ComPoint will be forwarded as unicast to the specific client.
ARP-Requests to all other nodes will be filtered out at any Access Point port.
Changes and Imporvements
Change: The values of signal strength have been corrected.

at prompt had not been accepted.

Known Problems
Remote Config sometimes fails configurating the bridge which initiated the remote
configuration, also the remote bridge was configured correctly. This causes the remote
bridge to switch to Link enable, whereas the other side remains unconfigured. No Link
can be established at this state. Remote config can only be performed again, if
the remote bridge is set to remote config allowed again.
Options: 1. set remote bridge to remote config allowed again.
2. enter the MAC adresses of RemoteCard1 and RemoteCard2 at the local bridge
manually and enable the bridge link.
This problem will be solved within the next release.

Changes and Imporvements
Change: discovery mechanism in Bridge mode improved. If two crads in

Reset Button

If the button is pressed while power up, CP will halt in Monitor state.
This enables basic settings to change and firmware upgrade.
There is no wireless function at this state!
The device will return to normal operation after performing a Reboot.

If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
